Floor shifter question/what do you have?

I have a B&M shifter that I gave Logan but this week we'll be picking up his new LT1 and 700r4 transmission. We'll need a shifter with OD for his build now. What have y'all used? Pictures would be great...He wants a floor shifter and has a bench seat.

I used the original 3-on-the-tree for my 4L60e swap.

No picture but I used the LOKAR floor shifter. Makes it look more like a truck and not some sissy car shifter :-)

B&M Mega truck shifter in mine. Just put it in last weekend. I have a 350/350 set up in my 64 GMC but it has the option and parts to be used with a OD trans. I put the extra parts away for when i'm able to upgrade engine and trans. I want to go with a vortec/700r next.

That Mega Truck shifter is really nice! My Brother has one in his '70 short bed
468 roller/400TH. It looks wicked in there and performs great. I had my 700r4 built for better performance so the rachet action of the B & M is fun....despite the "sissy car shifter" look...

Problem is GENNIE is NO longer in business ! The American is a copy but I don't know how good. B&M make's a Shifter and it has a longer handle and runs around $125.00 from Jegs. I have a Gennie 23 inch for a 350 and it vibrated real bad at high speeds.

I wasnt aware of GENNIE no longer in business..what a bummer I bought mine from a speed shop on the internet 7 yrs ago, and Im sure there still out there from other vendors.. I know the quallity exceeds American by far and it aint no copy..American shifter is made in China and the cheap mounting bolts strip easy..I also dont like the push button on the knob to release from park because it sticks alot (those were my findings for an install on a turbo 350). Check and see if the rubber pads didnt fall off between mounting bracket and top of trans for your vibrate issue..

Re: Floor shifter question/what do you have?

I glued the pads on. The problem was high RPM because of 3:73's and a 350 trans. I put in a 700R4 and cut my cruising RPM'S. I am going to use my Gennie in my Model A as I have a 3:08 rear end for it.

dubiebro, I owe you and everybody else that's read this thread ! Gennie is STILL in business. I just Googled them and called them. I even ordered a shift boot ring for my Shifter. They will sell direct if there are No dealers in your area. Since there isn't any local to me I was told I could order any part or shifter I wanted from them. AMERICAN MADE and decent Customer Service. There Shop is in the Denver Area for your Information. Sorry I spoke out of Turn and gave the wrong Information.

Actually, I just spoke with GENNIE on the phone at 12:49 east coast time and they are very much still in business!!!!

I really like the gated shift concept they use and plan on buying one from them.

I take it the mid mount gennie lines up with the hole that's already in the high hump?

Re: Floor shifter question/what do you have?

I have used Lokar on the 700R4 in my last three builds. One a floor mount, one mounted on the trans with the trans mounted brake, and the third was a cable operated due to tight clearance.

My 65C10 will have a 4 speed NASCAR Hurst shifter on an aluminum Super T-10 4-speed.:truck:

Gennie didn't have the greatest customer service when I dealt with them. I hope that has improved. My experience was so bad, I wouldn't ever consider using another of their products.

Re: Floor shifter question/what do you have?

Based on some of the pics, can the Lokar or Gennie shifters be installed by simply removing the trans hump?

I used a LOKAR shifter on my 700R4 and it does not interfere with the bench seat. You will also need the high hump tout use this shifer.

doobiebro, did you have to get a 'lo-stick' or did you just get the mounting bracket and a shifter? Not sure what the 'lo-stick' is??

I think lo-stick is the shorter shifter. I got mine with a 23" swan leg shifter which I think is the longest shifter they have. Mounting brackets are the same and shifter lengths change but I could be wrong. Call the good guys at Gennie..American made Co.:metal:

Here is a Hurst Shifter...it fits very well and is a little less conspicuous...

Gennie gets my vote also, but I always called it a swan neck. A more graceful curve than the leg. :>D
