Interior cleaning products?
 

I wanna clean up my dash and door panels, but I have heard that Armor All leaves a film that prevents it from future painting of them. Is there anything to clean them with that doesn't do this?

I am not 100% but aerospace 303 might be good if you plan on painting them later. It does not have any silicone in it. I think.

To clean them, I use the hottest water I can get, no soap, and a wash rag. If it requires more than that, I use Goop hand cleaner (without pumice).

For protectant, I use Auto Armor (no silicone).

You can always prep for paint/dye, even if you've used Armor All before. You will prep for paint/dye if you're doing it right anyway and odds are that Armor All was used at least a few times back in the 80's-90's on your truck even if you don't.

How does one fo about removing the silicone film from the interior if it has been used before? And basically any auto cleaner without silicone is good?

The stuff they use before paint to clean the surface ( some call it prepsal ) is supposed to remove silicone pryer to painting .

There are some alternatives to armor all that are supposed to be more "body shop friendly" or easier to remove for painting purposes like Wizards... http://www.wizardsproducts.com/tire-vinyl-shine-22-oz/

I use TSP to clean door panels, trim pieces, etc before painting & have had good luck.

I use "spray nine" cuts coffee and grease very good.
rubbed with a soft bristle brush
rinse with hot water

Not sure about cleaning - I use general purpose cleaner from Dollar Tree for $1 per bottle, and their $1 carpet and upholstery cleaner. x2 on 303 - I use it on all of my tires - very pricey but you can use it sparingly and it lasts a long time - leaves no shiny appearance - works well even in the desert heat.

I use Purple Power for most of my general cleaning needs, diluted in the right amounts I use for everything from cleaning interior surfaces, carpet shampooing to degreasing engines. Works great.

To remove Armor All... Mineral Spirits (you can get stink free for more $) or Kleen Strip's wipe down prep is actually called Prep-All. Everybody always says Preps-all but there's no S in there. Bugs me. LOL! Both are safe for plastic.

FYI, Purple Power, Simple Green, etc. can leave a film just because they are such strong degreasers, it's the nature of the product. Good for heavy cleaning, bad for paint prep.

Tuff stuff (yellow and red can) will do the job, along with a clean white clothe and warm water.

Usually I use PP for general cleaning, not paint prep. With vinyl I use laquer thinner to wipe down before any prep work begins, then prep-all before refinishing.

this is cleaning process I used when I cleaned and freshened up my interior a few years ago...

First I mixed in Clorox with a large bucket of very soapy water and used a scuff pad to clean every inch of each piece and then rinsed thoroughly. I repeated this process 4 times for each piece. Next I dried off each piece with a lint free microfiber towel. Then I thoroughly cleaned all pieces once again using automotive grade lacquer thinner making sure to only wipe in one direction to keep from spreading the leftover residue. After all this was complete, I let everything sit and dry for 24 hours. Once it was ready for paint I did 2 light coats of Bulldog adhesion promoter with 5 mins between coats. Finally I used the SEM color coats and sprayed 6 lights coats on each piece with 5 mins flash/dry time between coats. I let everything set for a few days to make sure it was completely dry before I begin re-installing.
