A couple questions

Hey guys, I have been tearing apart the front end of my truck and along the way have run into a few things that have got me stumped. First off, there is a large upper case M stamped on the top side of my transmission. Does this stand for something and what is it there for? Second, what color would the transmission pan on a th350 be? It is blue right now but would like to know the factory color because the truck is being restored to original. Third, are there and if so where are the casting number for the heads located? Couldn't find any tonight while searching for them with my dad. Thanks :chevy:

I have seen a ton of chevy trans and never seen a marking like that! Also from Oregon, about 80 miles south.

Re: A couple questions

Looks like someone scratched it on with a putty knife, unless it is painted on. If it is painted on it might be one from an auto wreckers and that would be how they would have marked it for a warranty?

Re: A couple questions

It is the original transmission and that M is a raised imprint on the transmision. I scraped the top layer or grease and grime off so you could see it better.

Re: A couple questions

GM did mark 4x4 automatic transmission cases with a cast in K

Maybe there is a similar reason for noting these M cases....?

Re: A couple questions

turbo 350 trans pans were not painted "bare metal"
the casting numbers are under the valve covers right in the middle of the heads date codes are futher towards the ends of the heads under the valve covers
