Pinion angle
1 Attachment(s)
Hello all,
Just looking for some opinions on my pinion angle before I commit to a course of action. The truck is a 72 Jimmy with 4" tough country springs in the front, ORD shackle reversal and 2" tough country springs in the rear. The truck sits nice and level with the top on and no longer looks like a dog dragging his hind quarters on the carpet. The shackle flip and converting from an automatic transmission have left me with a 10 degree difference in drive line angle and pinion angle. I'm wondering with the six inch total lift in the back if the drive line angle is too steep for single u-joints? Option (1) a 10 degree shim from DIY4X4 for under $50 Option (2) cut off and weld on new spring perches for under $50 Option (3) go to a double cardan joint in the rear which will be expensive to have a drive shaft built. Thanks for your input |
Re: Pinion angle
Go with the double cardan joint driveshaft. With the short wheelbase and 4-6" of lift you will operating near the max working angles of the single joints.

Re: Pinion angle
I used a flange on the output shaft and used a stock 1350 cv from a 99+ super duty truck. Strong and plentiful. You can retube it pretty reasonably. If you're staying 1310 jeep xjs have a good front cv shaft to use.

Re: Pinion angle
I'll look into Abby spring and check the not so local wreckers for the other bits.
Thanks |
