Re: how i set my cab on .......solo
haha you should be proud of that accomplishment, but does that really count as "solo"? thats like saying "how to do landscaping yourself" and step one is "start your bobcat"
by the way that truck looks amazing. |

Re: how i set my cab on .......solo
Actually a great "resource thread" this.
We all learn from here. This is copied and pasted from my thread when using my buddy Martin get his cab off. Built the jig, based on one I saw on here. Video clip shows how easy it works too. I spent about 5 hours over at mate Martins place today. We removed his cab, which has set me thinking that I should maybe remove mine as well, to get better access to the underside of the chassis. On removing the cab, he found a lot more rust, terrible historic patches an a load of sand inside the chassis outriggers. I will post up the pics to tell the story of getting the "special tool" in and moving the cab away. Final inspection before removing the last two chassis mounting bolts. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psf80fb9a8.jpg One broke off, despite all preparation. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psde9de650.jpg Lifting jig fitted to three ton hoist. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps74496cfc.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps3c23c54a.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps6b0699a5.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfb23e31e.jpg VIDEO IN LINK BELOW AND THIS IS HOW IT WAS DONE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lxcu...lt8TvG8KEwT5Kg IMPRESSIVE STUFF, AND RESULT. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps03c4cf7b.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps0815d072.jpg Next up we parked the cab out the way, the trolley needs another 24 inches of height, which will happen later. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps356c9480.jpg Farmer Brown........ http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfa112079.jpg Lastly Martin removed the welded on front bumper and the truck was put back into its tight spot. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfb63875c.jpg That was it for this weekend. As we go on working together, I am learning more and more. |
Re: how i set my cab on .......solo
Wow Grizz, that's the nicest lift I've seen. There's several threads over on the 47-59 area of simillar wood lifts because of all the S-10 frame swaps going on there. I made one also when I did my 53 to S-10 swap. But that one is great.

Re: how i set my cab on .......solo
Most of us don't have a few buddies around to move a cab around, so we have to figure it out by ourselves! Great thread!!

Re: how i set my cab on .......solo
Thanks for posting the cherry picker jigs. I was contemplating hanging mine from the rafters of my garage wasn't looking forward to that. This is definitely the way to do this.
