Well it doesn't seem like a lot have done this, so here are two examples one with red wheels for contrast.

Mmmm, I'll take a drumstick please :)

Oh and a couple of burbs.

Yah I know only one is a burb :)

I don't have them on the truck yet but here's what they look like:

They are Wheel Vintiques Smoothies and are 16"X7".
I've got 5 since I'm putting the spare on the side.

The paint is Summit SS urethane in Wimbledon White.

I was happy with this inexpensive paint. It's got a real nice gloss:

Those wheels look really nice! What prep did you do prior to painting? Did they come with the powder primer? Paint the inside black?

It's some sort of gray primer they put on them. Whatever it is it's pretty tough stuff. I scuffed the wheels with a maroon Scotchbrite before coating with SPI epoxy primer.

Here's one just taken out of the box to do a trial fit over my CPP disc brakes. (The front axle is removed and laying on top of the frame.)

I bought 16" rims for a couple of reasons. One was that I wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any issue clearing the brake calipers. The other was that there is a many more tire choices in 16" than there is 15". I bought 5 Bridgestone Dueler Alenza Plus in 235/70R-16. They had very good ratings and were available in blackwalls.

I sprayed a couple of coats of black SPI primer on the backs and insides. The next day I flipped them over and sprayed the outsides of the rims with a single reduced coat of white SPI epoxy and followed up with 2 coats of the Wimbledon White SS after waiting an hour.

I did reduce the Summit urethane just a little with slow reducer to make sure I got it down flat with a good gloss. I used my Iwata LPH-101 spray gun with a sidewinder cup.

Thanks for the wealth of info! I too plan on spraying them in black SPI epoxy, just wondering about the sealer coat before the cream color. You answered it with the white epoxy.

Wheelsmith 16x7s w/ "butterscotch" powdercoat. A little more yellow than cream.

You are welcome.
I always use a single reduced coat of SPI epoxy for a sealer/adhesion coat before color no matter what I'm spraying over. I use my Iwata and reduce it 25 to 33% with slow reducer.

When I spray a 2 coats of epoxy on something I'm not going to topcoat like suspension parts, inner fenders and such (and the insides of those wheels), I reduce it 10 to 15%.

Whenever I'm spraying epoxy on something I will follow up with another type of primer, I don't reduce it at all and spray it with a cheaper primer gun.

Btw, I used that same Summit Wimbledon White paint to paint my grille, bumpers and headlight bezels.

Btw,

I'm painting my truck Fir Green (RAL-6009) and the interior is Pale Brown (RAL-8025).
The top of the dash has the Fir Green and I'm going to paint the door inserts that color too. The upholstery matches that Pale Brown nicely. Haven't decided for sure what carpet color to go with.

On the outside of the truck I've only got the firewall painted with the green so far.

I think the Wimbledon White on my wheels, bumpers and grille will go well with this green.
