5.3 to 4l60e... Advice needed!
Purchased a 2004 5.3 to throw in my 72 c10. Found a 4l60e, but it's out of a 1994 vehicle (so I was told)... Is there anything extra needed to pair these up? The guy we bought the tranny from also gave us an extra flywheel he said we'd need...

You will need a converter for the 2004 model, and the flex plate should look like a flower, dished in the center, by 10mm.

issue is that the 1994 4l60e is non pwm (pulse width modulation) TCC lockup, so you cannot put a PWM converter in (Such as the 2004 mentioned above).
The trans will work, if you tune the lockup settings correctly for on and off and not a percentage of lockup. Also you need the 4l80e flex plate with spacer, or the cheaper alternative is that Hughes sells a spacer for the torque converter nose and you will have to oblong out the holes on the stock 5.3 flexplate to accept the older convertor bolt pattern. |

The 3-2 downshift Solenoid & Valving is also an issue.
'93-'95 3-2 Solenoid is controlled via PWM & the 3-2 Valve is isolated from the Solenoid. '96-'08 3-2 Solenoid is controlled via On/Off, The 3-2 Valve is actuated directly. I would advise against using '93/'94/'95 4L60E's, You may get the TCC control ironed out with a custom tune, But custom 3-2 PWM tables that works right may be tricky. All that to run a 21 year old 4L60E core of unknown origin? Get a correct 300MM 4L60E for a LS & have it rebuilt. |
