Remove extra bracket?
I want to take this bracket off - I'm not sure what used to be connected to the top portion, but it seems to be mostly excess at this point.
There is, however, one spot at the bottom where the PS pump is bolted to it. My question - is this supporting the PS pump, or is the PS pump used as a mounting point for the bracket? If it is supporting the PS pump, does anyone know if there is a lower bracket for the PS pump that doesn't have all the extra that this one does? It doesn't look like the PS pump bracket kit from LMC has it: http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=150 Thanks! https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-F...0/IMG_1736.JPG |
Re: Remove extra bracket?
Oh, and I forgot to mention - I'm going to be putting headers on shortly, so I'm going to have to get rid of that bracket one way or the other...
Thanks! |
Re: Remove extra bracket?
You are missing some of the rear compressor bracketing parts and the main rear cylinder head-to-compressor brace is being used basically as just a P/S pump bracket.
Here are some images that should help you figure it out: http://s5d2.turboimagehost.com/t1/21512723_PS_brkt.jpg http://s5d2.turboimagehost.com/t1/21512724_2678613.jpg http://s5d2.turboimagehost.com/t1/21512725_1_013.jpg http://s5d2.turboimagehost.com/t1/21512727_1_036.jpg http://s5d2.turboimagehost.com/t1/21512728_1_035.jpg http://s5d2.turboimagehost.com/t1/21...socket_017.jpg With non-AC, brace 10 takes the place of all the other parts in the lower RH corner (first dwg). Here is what the P/S pump bracketing for a non-AC truck looks like: http://s5d1.turboimagehost.com/t1/21512782_HPIM1529.jpg So, if you remove that main rear AC brace you will have to find a brace as above to anchor the outboard rear P/S bracket. |
Re: Remove extra bracket?
Awesome - thanks for the reply. Anyone know what would need to be done in order to get the ac and power steering to mount up with headers? I can't imagine that stock bracket would work even with spacers...

Re: Remove extra bracket?
Leave it all there and use spacers under the brackets between the brackets and the header flange. Works fine that way.

Re: Remove extra bracket?
The headers call for this bracket to be used with AC -
https://www.holley.com/products/exha...parts/10925HKR I can't see how this would work though, not sure where it would be used. |
Re: Remove extra bracket?
That bracket you referenced is for an A6 type of compressor, which was the type before your R4 compressor.
http://documents.holley.com/10925-6hkrrev1.pdf All you have or do is remove the bolts and slide the exhaust manifold down and out, then slide headers up in place and cut two little spacers to fill the gap between the header flange and the current bracket. |
Re: Remove extra bracket?
Great - thanks. I took another look at my setup and I'm having trouble matching it up to the diagrams... Will take some photos a little later - hopefully it's just something simple...

Re: Remove extra bracket?
I kept the bracket and cut away all of the extra stuff on it for my stroker engine. I put headers on and still use the bracket, I just don't use a header bolt in that spot, I have the original bolt with spacers under the bracket to keep everything aligned.

Re: Remove extra bracket?
OK, I took some more photos. Like I said, I'm having trouble matching up what I have to the diagrams above. Maybe I'm just not seeing it correctly, or I suppose the PO could have messed with it even more than I originally thought (entirely possible).
So here's where I'm at - first, on the AC diagram - I see brackets 20 and 14 (I think), but I don't see 16 or 21 on the front. I do see that I am missing some of the rear left stuff that should attach to the large bracket that I originally posted about (3). Would that be 7? And 10 is for trucks without AC only? On the Power Steering pump diagram - I see bracket number 6 and 12, but not 13. 13 I think is the same as 7 in the other diagram. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t...0/IMG_1739.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-S...0/IMG_1740.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f...0/IMG_1741.JPG Thanks! |

Any thoughts?

Looks like you're only missing the rear compressor bolt and spacer. Power steering pump has three bolts, one pivot and two slotted. As long as there are three bolts holding it you have everything. Those bracket diagrams don't look right to me. This is the best pic I have of what is down there:

You only seem to be missing a couple bolts and the spacer (compressor takes metric bolts btw).

Re: Remove extra bracket?
Anyone know where I can get the missing hardware (bolt, spacer, etc.) from?
|
Re: Remove extra bracket?
I would just go to an automotive supply that has bolts in metric sizes, for a start.
