What year did D60's start in K30's?
Or maybe a better question is what front end should be under a stock '76 K30?
The locking hubs look different than what I have seen before, almost pyramid, or conical shaped. I haven't been able to look under it yet, just briefly from the side. Any advice on identifying what it is? I tried to google an image for the differences like for a rear, but haven't found anything for fronts. |
Re: What year did D60's start in K30's?
1977 is the first year GM put a Dana 60 in the front of the trucks. They didn't make a K30 before that.
If it is the original axle in a '76, then it should be a Dana 44. |

The ad says '76 and these are the pictures he posted?
Doesn't mean something hasn't been swapped over time I suppose... |
Re: What year did D60's start in K30's?
That is not the original axle. In '76 GM used internal lockouts. The picture is an external lockout. Looking at the front of the axle, there is a number cast in to the lower right rib of the center section. Post a picture of the steering knuckle.
