Has anyone deleted the spare tire area?

I'm thinking of making a patch panel or cutting an old door to fill the top area of where the spare sits. I want to create a continuous body line from the front door to the hatch. Then do a continuous rear panel for the whole cargo area. Has anyone done this? Any pictures or advice?

If you do this, where will your spare tire go?

I HATE having to dig out everything from my car's trunk to get to the spare and I couldn't imagine having to get a spare (coated in salt and road grime) out from under a bed.

I would put a sub there or a rear heater. I don't have a spare tire in any of my vehicles. In the last 35 years I have never even needed one. With every one having cell phones you could just make a phone call to a tire shop or whoever for help. Spare tire delete sounds good to me :)

That would look cool, but there is no way I will do it.
I can just see it all deleted and then a blowout with no spare in the cold and rain.
But it will look nice and clean.
Do it.

Our company trucks have logged hundreds of thousands of miles without spare tires. No need for one. A new tire is just a phone call away, unless you are off grid !

I may do this to mine if I cant find the parts to rebuild my tub to outer quarter. I have been driving for 39 years and never used the spare tire.

Yes I did, I can send some picture tomorrow. It looks good not finished up yet, body work wise, but cut out and welded in. I have a parts burb I cut the piece from and welded in.

dang, i've needed spares several times, i took my truck just for a test ride one day while back and blowed a tire about 5 mins from home took an hour to do a 5min job (i left the tire in the garage where i hauled some gravel) i'm not gonna wait around for something i can do quickly and get back going.

Re: Has anyone deleted the spare tire area?

Im not worried about the spare tire...If I go for a long trip Ill just throw one in the back. I was just thinking it would be a cool opportunity to make that really clean back there as well as continue the side interior panel to cover that whole area...Maybe put a top on the hole and make it a secret storage compartment or put a sub back there etc...

I'd love to see any pics

Here is a picture of the spare tire metal panel removed and patched in. The only thing is the chrome trim piece that covers the upholstery panel is not long like the drive side. Hope this helps.

Re: Has anyone deleted the spare tire area?

I saved all the stuff out of a burb so I could put in a spare tire well in my panel. Id rather have it and never need it. The hard cover looks good.
