how to determine what axle i need
 

To make a long story short I sent my rear 68 C10 axles off to a machine shop to have them re-drilled for 5X5. I never got my axles back and at this point they will never make it back. I however must replace these axles with new ones. When I look at getting a set and they want to know lenght, spline count and in somecases diameter all of which I dont know what my last alxes where as I never thought they were never coming back so I never knew these figures. My questions is how do I measure or do what ever I need to do to deteremine the correct axle lenght, spline and diameter so I can get these ordered to finish my rearend.

Buy them from someone who sells them for your truck specifically, they will know. I recommend Early Classic Enterprises. They have 5 lug conversion axles for 63-70 trucks. Here's a link to their catalog.

I found axles from the place you listed at $319 a set but they really dont list the length of axle. I want to know the lenght and spline count to just shop around and find whats there instead of just buy the first set I see that I think may work. Just me always out to get biggest bang for the buck kind of person. I would bet they were a 30 spline and I should be able to measure from the backing plate in to determine what lenght I would need but really I just thought someone would know the lenght and spline count from having a set around somewhere but will do what ever I must to get this project back on track. Thanks to all in advance for any input.

I got a set of Moser's from Summit for my 69 with narrow rear axle. $259 shipped to my door. 30 spline, 30.5 in long.

What Russ said is correct. The 1970 came in a wider width. The pre 70 is 30.5. Another way to be sure whether or not you have the wider or narrow rear end is to measure the housing. I just spied a thread on here that talked about what the housing widths should be for both configurations.

I didn't go moser, I went Alloy USA which you can also find on summit. They are a little cheaper if budget is tight and you wont be making a ton of power.

Try moserengineering.com They have axles, axle shafts, etc... for early model chevy trucks and are a well established name in the automotive industry. I purchased a set of shafts for my 68 C10. They matched the original shafts exactly. The techs were also very quick to reply to questions I had prior to ordering.

I have a set of 6 lug axles out of a 67 C10 I bought for the 12 bolt posi. They measure 30.75" long and have 30 splines. If you want them they are yours if you want to pay the shipping. PM me if you are interested.

mysons68c20 I do appreciate the offer of the axles but I'm still not sure of the length of axle I will need. I plan on making some calls today to get a better idea of what the orginal lenght would had been and start from there.
