strange stalling issue 5.7 TBI.....
Hi
I have a 95 2wd 1/2 ton pickup with the 5.7 TBI and automatic overdrive trans. If I drive the truck a decent amount of miles to fully warm it up 15 -20 miles and stop to get a soda,, shut it off , get my soda then return to the truck it will fire right up and run fine. Same scenario but leave the truck for 20 - 40 minutes and it will start up , run about 20 seconds and die. If you cycle the key numerous times you can usually get it started, and then it will run fine. IF after 20-40 minutes , you start it , run the rpm's up to around 2000 for a few seconds it will run fine. A little history : The truck shows around 130k miles. The engine is from my 89 truck ,same configuration, it has around 140k miles and was a new crate motor I installed in the 89. The 89 truck was very rusty so I parted it out at 253k miles on the truck. the 95 truck has a new fuel pump , hanger , and filter. Re-man ECM, and distributor, new coil, cap , rotor , plugs and wires. When I put the engine in the 95 I resealed the oil pan , intake , valve covers , and timing cover. Installed a new timing chain and water pump at the same time. The one item that has not been replaced is the actual TBI,,,, it has around 270k miles on it and has never been touched. Is there a rebuild kit for these or do you buy new ? It has worked so I didn't mess with it . The 89 truck run between 14.5 and 16 mpg ,,,, I'm getting around 12 - 13 in the 95. I have been driving this truck for around 18 months and this stalling issue has surfaced in the last couple of months. Thank you for any and all help !! Tom |
