Do k20's sit higher than k10's
my question is will a k10 with a 4 inch lift on it sit the same height as a k20 or k30 with a 4 inch lift. Im really only focused on if it will sit the same as a k20 but a k30 is a bonus. Thanks!!!!!:metal::metal:

A k20 yes, k30 no. Assuming all 3 have the same tires, wheel width, and are on level ground.

Re: Do k20's sit higher than k10's
The 10 and 20 frame are the same height and width, but the 20 uses thicker steel. The 30 is taller (and I think thicker too). C and K frames are somewhat different as well.

Re: Do k20's sit higher than k10's
Here are some dimensions from the 1980 Chevy truck vehicle info kit from https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-...tion-kits.html I picked 1980 just because it's in the middle of the 73-87 year range ... other years should be similar.
Ground clearance (front / rear) K10 = 7.4" / 7.1" K20 = 8.8" / 7.2" K30 = 8.3" / 7.8" Overall height (ground to top of cab roof) K10 = 71.9" K20 = 73.9" K30 = 74.7" (or 75" for bonus/crew cab) These dimensions are for "standard equipment" trucks with 6-cyl engines and no load. |
Re: Do k20's sit higher than k10's
I.m.o. a 4" lift on a k10 would sit at a k30 height stock. K20 would sit about 1 1/2"-2" higher than the k10. That said skinny 35's will (for the most part, such as humvee 35" take offs) clear stock k30 suspension. Starting with the k10, I would do 6" and 35". Basically a k30 with a 2" lift. With either combo the tires will fill the wheel wells about the same. Don't forget to consider drive line angle of the 6" as well as possible gear change needed with the 35's. Most likely you can live with whatever the stock gears are with 33's.

Re: Do k20's sit higher than k10's
My truck sits with in a margin of error of a K10 a new neighbor hood guy I meet has.
I built a light duty K20 with 3.42 gears, and 265/75/16's. Which on PYO's measure 32 3/4 inches. I have bull bolt ons, and the truck was very peppy with the stock 350. I have since added the low gear planatary, and it is more peppy. You really notice it when I loaded the truck up a few times. I carb is shot as it leaks are internally, and gets real annoying on the tune. Still has given me a average of 13-14 highway up or down hill going 65/70. City likely 8 or so, but how do you difine city. My tires are falken wildpeaks e rated with about a 450 tread ware. So depending on how far you commute I would watch tire selection, and height. Paying for nothing gets old quick if you never get to use it. |
