Door seal channel rot / rust

Every one of these truck I have seen including my own have rust under the door seal at the threshold. I realized why when I was trying to find the leak on my windshield.

The water runs from the top of the door behind the seal and settles at the bottom because it has no where to drain.

Has anyone ever considered drilling a couple of holes under the seal to allow the water to drain?

problem with drilling holes is that the water will then run into the rocker panel and rot that out.. or the floorboard .. just gotta keep eyes on it and fix little issues before they become BIG issues

I was thinking about trying to make a forming tool to make a channel that runs under and perpendicular to the seal to allow a relief for the water to run out of.... I think way too much,,,

there is a hole in your picture, in the lip that stands up and the seal pinches on. thats what drains it. not real good, but it does work. if your winshield is sealed it shouldn't get water there anyhow, unless you leave the window down or spill your coffee!

Even if the windshield does not leak water runs down the seal from the top of the door and settles under the seal. The existing holes will let water out of the cab but not out from under the seal. This is why I want to try and form a channel running under and perpendicular to the seal. To create a relief for the water to drain.
