mystery wheels
1 Attachment(s)
Can anybody identify these wheels?....I plan on dropping my 90 GMC C1500 stepside 3"/4" (when the weathers warmer!) and replacing these wheels with either painted or chrome rally's (either 7" or 8")....It appears that the mounted wheels have a considerable offset and stick out passed the fender lip...
I don't want to buy either the drop stuff or new wheels until I know what I'm dealing with... |

Those look like Weld ultra from that era. more than likely they are an 8 or 9 inch wide wheel. I ran factory style 73-87 ralleys on my 96 and you'll get a similar sticking out on them and probably not as good for a lowered truck (depending on ho low you go). Your current wheel and the ralleys use what I call a normal offset, instead of being offset to the inside a lot. The 7" ralleys would work on the front for a lowered truck and shouldn't be an issue. Just not sure how low you could get with the 8" ralleys.
Here are some of my old 92 (tires were 235/75x15) and my 96. Both had 8" wide ralleys |
Re: mystery wheels
Thanks for your replies to both of my concerns, the seats and wheels, your insight was invaluable and has provided the information I was hoping for!..

They're just a set of off-the-shelf wheels that you could walk into your local tire shop and buy and have slapped on your truck real quick. These types of wheels were usually in 8" or 10" widths in the 15" sizes. It's hard to be 100% from the straight-on angle of your pic, but I'm betting yours are 8" wheels. With some shorter tires, they could possibly work with a 3/4 drop. Back in the day I ran 15x10s with 295/50 tires and a 2/4 drop on my truck without any troubles. But if you are going to go back with a stock wheel, I would also suggest the 7" wheels to be safe. Even with stock 235/75 tires you would be safe with the 3/4 drop and 7" wheels. On my Suburban I have a 3" drop with 15x7 Sport wheels and 235/75 tires and it works great. |

Thanks
It appears that by going to a chrome 7" Rally wheel with a 2"-3" front drop and a 4" rear drop will work......I was concerned by the offset and backspacing of after market slotted rally's... |
Re: mystery wheels
Oh, and btw, my tire size is 225/70R15
