First LSx swap in progress

I picked up an LS engine for the ’67 Panel a while back. I think I have the wire loom figured out after reading on here and the other LS swap sites. I have the adapter plates, and a POL frame bracket kit, a Walbro pump, the Corvette filter/regulator, and a fresh air intake. The only big item I don’t have are the headers. Thanks to everyone on here that have posted information, tips, tricks and “how-to’s”. It really helps on the swap.

ooo-wee! This'l be neat! Late Camaro manifolds fit great. PM Jon01 on here, I think he had some headers, and he's in West Des Moines. Good Luck!

Wow, an actual LS1, you don't see a lot of those any more, most people are using truck engines. Panel looks nice, should make a nice cruiser. On a side note, what is the car in the background of the first pic with the Mooneyes sticker?

Is it a 98 ls1? Oil passages on block and heads werent that great in 98 just a heads up but if its gonna be a cruiser or daily you will be fine. U might here piston slap or lifter noise at times

Looking foward to see the build im installing an ls2 in my blazer with l92 heads and a holley high ram

That's my '34 Ford Coupe. It should be road worthy this spring. (pic below)

I think it's an '01 but I'm not 100% sure.

Thats a nice looking 5 window! Ithought that's what it looked like, I pretty much daily drive a 33 fordor in the summer.

As for your LS1, it looks like a 98 F body engine. Not that it matters much, but will be a factor when doing your harness since the 98's are pinned a little different than the 99-02's.

Leon, the TBSS manifolds work great with these swaps and new ones are cheap from GM parts direct. Last I heard they were backordered new tho....

Thanks, I think I saw a picture of your '33 on here somewhere. Looked good! Thanks for the info on the engine. I will have to double check my wiring then because I de-pinned it according to the '01 instructions. Would there be different numbers on the PCM's between '98 & '01?

It must just have a later PCM and harness then.

I got my oil sender modified and the 1/8" pipe fitting installed in it for the mechanical gauge. You just remove the LS sender, break the plastic off of the top and drill and tap it for the original SB 1/8" NPT block fitting, then screw your original oil line to it. Also got the temp sender hole drilled & tapped for the 67-72 temp sender yesterday. On the temp sender I drilled the head out to accept the original '67-'72 gauge sender. You use a 23/32 bit ( I started out small and worked my way up) and a 1/2-14 NPT tap, and use the correct sensor for your gauge or light. (NPT means National Pipe Thread)

I'm cleaning the shop so I have enough room to back the Panel in and set the engine in it. That's a two day job in itself...:)

Those sensor mods look familiar!

As for the PCM and harness, do you have a service number on the PCM? It could be a newer one. If you can post a pic of it, the 98's look a little different from the newer ones.

No picture on the PC but the service number is 12200411. Also, the temp sender has a two pin connector. I did a little research and it appears that those two items indicate a '99 up loom. If so I'm glad, because that is the instructions I used to modify the harness...:)

The shop is cleaned so I'm going to get the front clip off of the truck in the morning and get it into the shop.

Yep, the "411" PCM is a 99-02, so you should be good to go!

The 0411 is the "best" of the LSx PCMs. You can do all sorts of cool custom operating systems with it for boost, nitrous, speed density, etc. When I use factory ECUs, they are all I use.

Thanks for the info. I don't think this truck will ever see any of the "go fast" stuff but it is nice to know about the PCM.

Made a little progress on the Panel today. Removed the front clip and chiseled off the rivets in the manual cross member and removed it. I also moved the engine outside and started cleaning it. Hopefully I will finish it up in the morning. I will get the frame cleaned up tomorrow so I can paint it.

Headed in the right direction anyway...:)
