Longbed questions

Hello all, after lurking and reading for years I finally bought a truck.

1966 GMC C30 former fire department support truck. 305 V6 with 4 speed. 12,000 miles.

I also found a donor C10 LWB with bed. I was going to remove the open back utility body from the C30 and put a Fleetside on it. That plan fell apart when I found the passenger side of the Fleetside bed had rot al along the midline.

The C30 has a 133 wheelbase and the C10&20 are 127. I was going to cut a add 6" into the bed to make the Cab to rear wheel dimension work. Has anyone done this. I searched and saw longbeds becoming shorties but no long beds becoming longer beds.

Any parts suppliers carry LWB Fleetside full side panels?

Thanks

It has been done, there are pictures of long wheelbase trucks at truck shows with extended boxes on this forum.

You need to post pictures of your truck even if they are repeats..

DOH!! First post and I already got in trouble :whine: Hanging head in shame

From what I'm reading it may be more practical to find a 8' stepside to lengthen. Looks like almost any 60-87 Stepside box will work.

Doing some CL searches I turned up a couple 73-87 stepside long beds.

For a more fitting look I'll add 60-66 rear fenders.

Here's a couple pictures the seller took. Waiting for a shipper to pick it up. I wish my buddy that did the local view took pictures.

Are you serious?? Leave the truck as it is, really cool. It just has a big stepside box

Because I live in the peoples republic of Massachusetts I would be required to register this as a commercial vehicle and my insurance would require me to have a commercial insurance policy.

Congrats on the truck and welcome to the site.
Regarding the amount of work and expense to do what you are proposing to do- have you checked to see if it wouldn't be feasible to go with a commercial policy?

I'm still at the planning stage.

This will be a working truck, dump runs and hauling the hydraulic dump trailer.

I may yet get a commercial plate for it.

Your input now has me second guessing my plan

Nice tk, build it the way you want. Do you really want to drive around in a fire tk?

Flatbed maybe? Definitely agree to make it how you want it.

Here's a shot of a C60 with a modified bed. It's a lot bigger but similar idea.

Rich, I love it. A lot to be said for one of a kind style.
