Need opinions please

Debating buying this pickup for a few parts that will sort of modernize my 64 c20. Never dealt with this body style of truck but he wants 700 and I was think offering maybe 4-500 and see what happens. But my question is would it be worth buying and taking what I need and parting the rest? Or would it be a waste of money. I'd probably take the power steering pump and brackets and a few other little things..any help would be appreciated

For $400-$500 I would want more than a PS pump and some brackets. Unless you have the space to park it and part it out, it's hard to see spending $4-500 for some used steering components. However, if you have a nice grill, bumpers, doors, glass, etc, you can get your money back and them some...

If that tailgate band is in excellent condition it will be worth $500 by itself. Beyond that, it all depends on how much rust is on the sheet metal. If there is no good sheet metal, then I would say you should take it only if you can get $500 for the engine and trans as a core. Check Craigslist in your area to see what used square parts are going for.

Well I'd just use the power steering pump and brackets for my 64. The motor would go into another project to get it running. Then part the rest out. Just don't know what anything is worth on these

If you have the space and time to part it out, then you can research what parts sell for in your area, Ebay, Craigs List, etc. The lower you price things, the faster they will sell.

Good article on 60-66 power steering conversions using a 69-87 steering box.

I did the conversion to a friend's 66 2WD C10 a few years ago. We used this AGR box:

The modified AGR box is much nicer than a stock box -- tighter and quicker.

Interior is actually worth pretty decent money on these. Door panels, good dash pads, instrument bezels, tilt columns etc. A really nice set of door panels would pay for the truck if it was in the $400-500 range.

The 81-82 grille and bumper setup, if in good condition, is relatively hard to find. I imagine you could get $150 for it alone. Lots of miscellaneous interior parts can be hard to come by too. The gauge bezel is specific to 1981-1983 trucks. You can probably get $50 for it to the right buyer, depending on the condition. The cab band looks to be in good shape, there's another quick $50. The cab looks rotten, but the doors don't look too bad. Once again, at least in my part of the country, clean GM doors are always bringing decent money. Depending on the rust, probably $50-100 per door. $30-40 for the wheel well trim, and if the tailgate trim is as nice as it looks, probably $100 to the right guy. There's lots of rare little oddities on these trucks that people don't realize, and some of them could be worth a little money. If you could get the truck for $600 or less I'd go for it. Can't really go wrong there.
