5.0 Vortec Engine - Rotor button backwards?

Giving my 98 GMC 5.0 a tune up. Haven't messed with a vortec before. When I removed the rotor button I did not pay attention to which direction it was pointing... on older engines it only goes on one way.

Now that I'm ready to put the new rotor button back on, when I sit it on there, it seems that it will fit either way 180 degrees apart. I don't want to be 180 off... Am I missing something?

I just replaced one about a month ago, it will only go on one way. Looks like it will fit the other, but it won't center on the shaft. Study it a bit and you'll figger it out.

Gotcha BBR, once I tried to stick the screws in I got the answer. It is possible for the rotor to sit on it's hub 180 off, but the screws will not screw down. The indexing tabs & mounting holes are spaced so it can not be installed backwards. I knew it had to be dummy proof somehow :)

I have only seen vortec 5.0's in boats....did not know about them being in trucks. I thought it went 4.3 and then jumped to 5.7

Mine has a 5.0, they come in these trucks along with the 4.3's and 5.7's.

Mine actually has the extremely rare factory Ram Air Super Sport Rally Sport option 350 HP Vortec 5.0.

Just kiddin, but they do come with all three engines.
