I would think that you are going to have more troubles finding a long bed stepside :P

Will a long bed step side bolt right on yes,But just remember the gas filler necks are different between the gas cap and the gas door.Finding a long bed step side won't be easy its a rare bed not many was made.

Absolutely not. You can buy a pretty nice truck for that much, let alone a pile of flimsy foreign steel.

I remember seeing this because it's so damn cool. A whole truck for less than what you're looking at for a bed, and still would come out cheaper shipping it to you.

Not mine by the way.

Regardless of the route you choose, I love the long stepsides. I'd be sorely tempted by one myself.

If you work it out, keep us posted!

Just out of curiosity, did they make a longbed step square with a fender-mounted spare tire?

I got one. 87 with steps minus 87 fenders. I have early 70's fenders

Thanks , I agree . Buying a truck as parts is much better than spend more than 3K at LMC.

I will start my research for it .

You're right that is big saving even with the shipping. This one will cost me about 700 for shipping, I hope that I got replay from him soon.

Thank you for the link .

I will post all pictures ones I sterted on the project.

The spare tire as I know is underneath the bed in the 1978-1987. The use to mounted in the left side of the bed in the 60's and 50's.

I just bought a '78 long step a couple of months ago. It has the side mounted spare. The guy who bought it from the town that sold it removed the tire mount and threw it out. I'm not sure if they reproduce the fender with the cut out for the side mount. If you look at my avatar you can see the fender.

I just saw it in your profile photo , this is the first I have seen in 1973-87 with spare tire mounted on the side . However it's nice for me .

Yeah, it should be fun for me to find. Mine is a 1 ton with 8 lug wheels. I want to keep them so I may have to fab something up. Not sure. My bed also has the factory wood floor. Good luck with your exchange. Post pics.

You might give this guy a call. I was over at my bro's in Illinois and we were driving by, so we stopped in. Looked like he had 150 or so truck beds in his building. No kidding. All standing up on the cab end, like Stonehenge or something.

"Whatcha lookin' for?
"86 squarebody short bed fleetside with dual fuel doors."
"I got two of 'em. Here, let's take a look."

No kidding, he had two of them, *completely* rust free, complete with all the Silverado trim. They weren't free, but the best of them wasn't half what you're talking about.
