what unit is used in factory front limited slip
 

Last year I bbought a 69 chevy k10 that previous owners have butchered removing all the options that came on it pretth much. I know my truck originally came with limited slip in the front and rear because the build sheet says so but some idiot previous owner removed it from the front and installed an open dif. I've been trying to find out what would have been the original unit but havnt had a lot of luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Spicer/Dana model 60. That is what is in my factory optioned front dif posi. Bruce

Yes, my frt axle is a closed knuckle Dana 44. The center bit is a Powr Lok (two piece case that is rebuildable). I have 2 codes on my SPID. One is (9512AA POSI R AXLE) and the other is (9502AA FRONT AXLE UNIT). I believe the forst is for the posi rear and the second is for the posi front, although I am no expert. I have only learned this by digging and researching. Bruce

Hm maybe it didn't come with the spid sheet is pretty worn and it look like it say distraction fr axle but maybe it's supposed to say rr and is just worn. At least I'm not having to swap carriers in my axle swap now I guess.

My truck is a GMC born in the Fremont plate with a 17,000ish unique identifier. The code on your SPIDis exact to mine. 9512AA POSIT R AXLE. My SPID is as rough if not worse than yours. I have wondered what came after the "T" in POSIT. I also wondered if the single "R" was really supposed to be a single or double. But, I can say for sure mine your code is identical to mine. I still am trying to find more iinfo on the (9502AA FRONT AXLE UNIT). Sorry Keith, no build sheet found when the seat was recovered. Bruce

? Why do some codes have a letter followed by 2 letters and others have more digits/numbers then letters? Heck, everyone of DeadheadNM is 6 digits. Bruce

One point of clarification: those are SPID labels, rather than "build sheets".

Thanks again. I didn't realize there even was a front locker, as none existed in the squarebody era and I wasn't aware of one until the H2 came along.

Those are additional "functional name address" modifiers, and provide addtional detail about the RPO. They break it down into subsets providing an interim level of detail between the RPO code and the full proliferation represented by the actual part numbers.

They fell into disuse during the squarebody era and many SPIDs (mine included) simply have "dummy" characters - like all "9"s - to fill the space.

On some SPIDs they disappear altogether and only the three character RPO code is present. I didn't even know the additional characters had meaning until I joined this site, because I had only seen the dummy placeholders during my career.

Ok so I have always heard that the rear limited slip was a gov lok (g80) code so what would the 9512aa supposed to be. When I got the truck the spiders were torn apart and the guy at the axle shop told me it was a gov lok when I brought it in and traded it for an open for 80 bucks since he said u can't find the gears for gov loks it didn't look like any gov loks I've seen but assumed he knew more than me it's his job I'm going to be pissed if he ripped me off.
