On my 48 the bed floor has been raised 3". I was able to fit (2) - 5 gallon storage tanks and (2) compressors between the bed floor and my gas tank. Here is a pick from when I was building the truck (hence the rat nest of wires everywhere)..

Good luck

Marc

Here is where we put the tank, compressor and valves on my '48.

For the 'Burb I am planning a 3 gallon tank outside the frame rail between the running board brackets using two pumps.

Re: air tanks

Great question. I just had that conversation last Friday with the builder of my chassis. He builds a lot of trucks http://www.tricktrucknrod.com/hh/Home.action

He uses one three gallon tank with the two compressor set up and claims it is sufficient. The key is recovery time for tank air pressure and the two compressors handle that. Since he has been in business building these for a long time for paying customers I figure his advice is good enough for me.

That set up is for a system to enable me to simply raise the truck and drive away. Guessing if a person wants to raise and lower the truck multiple times in quick succession you may want more air storage capacity.

Hope that helps?

PS...Marc you truck looks as good underneath as on top!

That is what I want to do raise and go.
