63 chevy frame swap questions
Hey guys new guy here. I wanted to get yalls take on an idea of mine. I really like the look of the old chevy trucks especially with the wrap around windshield but the majority of them that I see on craigsist are just the normal C-10s not many K-10s and I was wondering how difficult it would be to take the body and mount it on a later year (such as an 84 or so) 4x4 frame. Ive done a little homework and the wheelbase is off 2.5 inches, but ive also heard that for the most part its just a bolt up deal and I wanted to get yalls take on this idea thx.

Re: 63 chevy frame swap questions
Installing a '60-'66 body onto a '73-'87 frame is NOT a bolt on deal. There will be a fair amount of fabricating of new body mount brackets and you will end up with about a 3" body lift.....Been there done that. Before doing any frame swap you will want to check with your local DMV and see what is required to make such a swap legal in your state. This is due to the frame and cab having a different VIN. IMO if you want a 4x4 just keep the original frame and install the 4x4 running gear under it. It isn't any more work than a complete frame swap, with better results and less headache.

Re: 63 chevy frame swap questions
how extensively would the body mounts on the 63 have to be modifies to fit the 84?

Re: 63 chevy frame swap questions
Take a look in this thread. It may not look like a lot of work, but it is if you want all the body lines to line up.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=481023 I just see absolutely no reason to change a '63-'72 frame to a '73-'87 frame, when the front suspension and steering from the '73-'87 will work on the '63-'72 frames. Even with a 4x4, the work to build all new body mounts is not any less work than just installing the 4x4 running gear under an original frame. Then you get to keep the original frame with the VIN that matches your cab VIN Quote:
