Shop in San Diego to install LS motor

Hello all,
I am new to the forum and I am looking for a shop in San Diego to install a LS motor into my 1969 Blazer. My current small block 350 is done. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ryan

I have zero advice for you....but I'm morbidly interested in the quote you get when you find one.

Keep us in the loop.

I did mine myself 4 years ago, a shop is SD will charge a ton to do this.
I could advise you on a few questions if you feel like tackling it yourself. Not hard at all as long as you have some technical abilities and can turn a wrench.

Well I found a guy in San Marcus that would charge $2000-3000 for the just the install of the engine. The price I am getting for an engine swap is $8k-$11k.

72Mike-I am a little pressed for time and space to do the build myself. I do really appreciate the offer though. Thanks

That price you were quoted, I think I should raise MY labor rates from the 60's to at least Y2K prices.....................damn I would have enough to stay retired

Did that price include engine and trans, and all fuel parts?

IMO engine swaps are something that you do yourself, or you don't do it at all unless; its a high-dollar ground up custom build (like a Riddler car or an actual turn key racecar) OR your doing something so radical that no home-hotrodder could attempt it.

Paying a shop to put a used engine into a used truck more often than not, results in getting the least bang for the buck, bar none. A typical LS swap is getting done under $4k, and that usually includes go-fast goodies and custom stuff. Your looking at over twice that for a stock junkyard motor.

When something breaks, you have NO idea how to track down the problem if a shop did the work. You can't exactly have it towed to a normal garage if a failure occurs.

RyKramer99,

I am a computer tech, I did my swap in my carport over a 7 month time frame, working evenings after my kids were in bed ( I am a single father also). The only thing I didnt do was the exhaust, I had a guy come out and do the exhaust on a trailer that was a lift kind of thing and he did my exhaust. I had very little help and rented the cherry picker and a few other tools I did not have. The engine and trans cost me about $1000, harness and tune, about $250, exhaust about $200, fuel and misc about $300.

You can do this!

Charging that much money for an LS swap seems crazy to me. I did mine in about 2-3 weeks (4-6 hours a day). However I had all the parts that I needed from doing all the research before I started the swap. Converting the harness and intergrading with the existing truck harness was the hardest part.

I also agree with Brew, if something breaks you will know what is wrong and what parts to get. Auto parts stores won't know what to look for.
