Sometimes you have to wonder what people were thinking
5 Attachment(s)
So I went to my local P'n'P to grab my transmission (I post in "what did you do today" on what I got). But anyway as i'm walking the yard looking for my target, I fall upon this...my wonder of how an AD made it to P'n'P turned to horror as i saw what the PO "attempted" to do.
It looks like someone attempted to do a frame swap w/an import. As you can see in pic #2, they blew the firewall apart. In pic 3 they thought they needed a sun roof and in pic 5 it looks like they tried to meld the donor vehicle's bumper in. The floor pan was trashed as they tried to do a tunnel for the trans. The sad thing is this a single window GMC cab 54 or 55.1 if i'm correct. Another sad note is the the usual areas felt solid with the exception of the right lower fender ..:waah: Now i'm not one to bash someone else's work, but well...and i'm sure this wasn't a member's truck cuz it wouldn't be in this state. I don't think even 99 to life (Henry) could save it in this state. I guess the moral of the story, make sure to tell your friends about this site and they can tell their friends and their friends, etc...so this won't happen again |

That is just sad.

well at least its not a 5 window.

Re: Sometimes you have to wonder what people were thinking
At first I thought it might be a 60's rear swing arm frame, but the disc thru me. Are there foreign PU that have rear swing arm suspensions? Fenders and parts of the cab look good for parts. Someone here did an AD autocross that modified the bumper like that, but did it right so it looks ok. Looks good in theory but the "builder" did not know what he was getting into.

Re: Sometimes you have to wonder what people were thinking
There was "thinking" involved in this attempt? Lol
Ok, I agree we shouldn't speak ill of another man's attempt to build his vision....but since we don't know who attempted this AND it is abandoned, I think we can make an exception. Maybe this was someone's very first attempt at a project and didn't know about websites like ours(?) That's the best attempt at being diplomatic I can think of. |
Re: Sometimes you have to wonder what people were thinking
Not everyone believes the 5 window is in some way a better choice for an AD project.

Re: Sometimes you have to wonder what people were thinking
I'm not sure what the frame is but it might be a 71 or 72 frame with disk brakes.
All too typical of the messes that get created when some guy has a decent body and a "free" frame and decides that the two can be combined even though it is quite apparent that they don't match up well at all. I've got a couple of nice doors left from one failed project like that that I picked up in the 80's that had some mini truck frame and an AD body that I ended up picking up for about 25.00. That one was just about as hacked up as the one Iowaboynca showed except it had no engine or trans. The roof got traded to a guy who was chopping a top and the fenders got sold to someone who heard I had them. The bed was too far gone to use and went to the scrap yard with the frame. The one in the photos is hacked up pretty well but I'd bet that a lot of guys on here would love to have a section of that cab to use on the one they are trying to fix. |

looks like a 1995ish 6 cylinder isuzu rodeo donor by the engine, firewall, and 6 lug disc rear end. especially the bumper. I agree it looks like a chevy trailing arm setup edit. 6 cylinder. I see the manifolds and coil packs clearly now. isuzu 3.2 rodeo. |
Re: Sometimes you have to wonder what people were thinking
Sad to say, a search of our local craigslist at any given time will find several half baked frame swap projects such as this one, most go unsold and end up at the local scrap yard.
These days most of our salvage yards have turned into recycling centers and stuff such as this one are crushed as soon as they are unloaded. In fact the U pull it 2 miles from me, keeps no full size trucks of any kind or age! |
Re: Sometimes you have to wonder what people were thinking
This needs to be the next car TV show..."When customizing goes wrong"
I bet that swap looked good on paper. |
