nv4500

Looked in my manual, it calls for 75W-85 API GL-4. Will 75w-90 api gl-4 be ok to use? Thats all I can find here local.

Re: nv4500

I would say it should be OK. I also have never seen the 75-85 locally either.

Re: nv4500

I always got mine from GM. I think they may be the only place to get the right stuff. It shouldn't make a difference, but I followed GM's recommendations to be safe because I started off with a 100k warranty.

Re: nv4500

What manual are you using?

My GM Manual calls for Castrol Syntorq LT Trans Fluid

GM Numbers have superseded to Synthetic Manual Trans Fluid #12346190

I would rather spend a little more now than a lot more later.

I looked at the 98 owners manual and it said the same as mine except 75w-90 instead of 75w-85. Mine is a 2000 but its the old body style(cab and chassis)

Re: nv4500

That doesn't make any sense why 3 manuals printed by gm say 3 different things.

Re: nv4500

Castrol makes the fluid that GM and Dodge attach their own part numbers too. It is the ONLY FLUID approved for use in the NV-4500. DO NOT use ANYTHING other than the approved fluid. Yes, it is expensive but the syncros (among other things) will destroy themselves with a regular off-the-shelf gear oil. Both Amsoil & Royal Purple make something that they claim is compatible. I have personally experienced an NV-4500 with the Amsoil fluid and I can say that it was noisier than one with the Castrol fluid.
