3in drop spindle questions
I have a 85 GMC Sierra 2wd with the 15" rally's. I have a couple questions I hope can be answered before I buy the spindles. How do I tell if my truck has the hd brakes or not? Also, can I buy a wheel spacer to clear the rims on the spindles, instead of grinding them? All feedback is appreciated, thanks

Re: 3in drop spindle questions
Measure the thickness of the rotor. It will be 1 inch or 1.25. I'm fighting the good fight with mine right now but I have 22s so I don't have that problem.

Re: 3in drop spindle questions
You just have to cut the "rain gutters" off the lower control arm. I have 3" spindles on my Suburban (same front end as the c-10) and it clears. It's close but it clears.

Re: 3in drop spindle questions
I used 3" DJM spindles on my 87 with 1" rotors and the 15x8 rally wheels fit with no grinding at all.

Re: 3in drop spindle questions
i could not run the 15" wheels with 3" dropped spindles. luckily i also had a set of 17" so i switched the wheels out.

Re: 3in drop spindle questions
I'm having to grind on these djm spindles to make them fit.

Re: 3in drop spindle questions
To clarify, I had to grind to get the calipers to fit, but no grinding on the lower control arm for wheel clearance.

Re: 3in drop spindle questions
I have the McGaughy's 3" drop spindles and 15" Rally's with 25mm spacers. I had to grind on the lower control arms to get my full turning radius back.

Re: 3in drop spindle questions
Theres tons of posts on this with pictures, some have to grind the lower lip of the ball joint area, years ago on here some dude had a failure due to grinding too much.
most people have to grind the brake caliper bracket on the spindle. alot of time fitting and fabricaing. It sucks. Thats on 15in rims, usually alum not steel..... check your backspacing before you take everything arart, if it clears now with a strait edge it will clear later. good luck, its a pain in the butt. |
