what exhaust are you running?

I have 3" pipe from the header collector to 2-chambered flowmaster mufflers then 2 1/2" pipe to the stock 68-72 chevelle tips out the back under the bumper. wishing it was just a little quieter on the inside. just curious what the rest of you have done on this subject

If you want to get rid of the drone inside you will have to stay away from flowmaster and any like them . I was like you and wanted a decent sounding muffler with out the interior noise . I went with dynomax super turbo and was happy I did . Has good sound with out being obnoxious . When you step on it it also has good sound but not crazy loud .

Heres the one I have . I went with the 20" muffler . The longer it is the quieter it is . http://www.dynomax.com/mufflers/super-turbo-mufflers . I used the 17749

Looks like we are neighbors . I'm in Guntersville .

x2. Chambered mufflers are notorious for the 'drone' issue.

My BBC cc dually has full length headers w/3" collectors, to 3" stainless head pipes/H pipe, into 3" Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. After the mufflers, the pipes reduce down to 2.5" stainless all the way out to the rear bumper & angle down/out @ the same angle as the outside bumper brackets. Even w/the bed off & inside a building, it's not obnoxious. Haven't really gotten to get it out long enough to open it up for a real-time impression though now that there's new sound deadener & carpet installed.

The Dynomax Super Turbos rated very high when I did internet searches on good flowing, quiet mufflers.

Re: what exhaust are you running?

3 inch headers with about 5 foot of tube running to two big flomasters with modified/opened up a little down tubes. Loud and rough but every time I think about replacing it, I love it all over again. Might weld an H pipe or X pipe in one of these days.

Re: what exhaust are you running?

I am running the large case Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers also. Long tube headers and 2.25 duals,

No drone, mellow rumble, may be quieter than YOU want, they flow good and have the sound I wanted.

454 long tube 2 1/2 out to welded thrush 2 1/2 sounds damn good a little but to loud but hopefully when I get tailpipes on it it'll quiet it down some.

Re: what exhaust are you running?

305-manifolds to 2.25 duals,H ,flowmaster 40s and down out the sides, before axle
350-manifolds to 2.25 walker dual kit, cherry bombs, to turndowns, before axle
Love em loud but
Ive found if any exhaust "bouncing" off the pavement , under it ,makes it louder inside.

Re: what exhaust are you running?

Full length headers, 2.5 exhaust to an x pipe then into flomaster original 40s then out the back at tip downward. Drone isn't too bad at all, fine on a 6 hour drive, I got 4.10s and a t56 tho rpms around 2500 at hwy speeds

SBC 350, Hooker long-tube headers to 2.25" exhaust pipes with 2" H-pipe, through Flowmaster 40s, 2.25" tail pipes straight out the back. All welded/braised except for the muffler connections.

that's straight up art Rich, no chrome tail pipes or tips for you?

Re: what exhaust are you running?

Nope. Just straight out the back. Cut back just shy of the bumper so if I tag something vertical backing up, it will be the bumper, not the pipes.

I should explain. I had some chrome tips laying around, the slip-over kind, so I put them on. But with the truck lifted, from the side you can see the pipes from the axle all the way back, and the tips looked like poser s**t, so I took them off. Much cleaner look. If I had stainless all the way back, that would be a good look. But tips just on the ends, when you can see the last 4 feet of the pipes from the side? Uck.

Full-length factory placement, though with a Dynomax cat and Ultra-Flow welded stainless muff, 3" all the way, and I got rid of the dumb dual tailpipes that don't line up, and are way apart...:sexy:

Re: what exhaust are you running?

I have a 383 stroker engine that exhasut into headers with a 3" collecter that drops to a dual 2 1/2" piping that has an "H" pipe just at the rear of the transmission. From there I have dual 2 1/2" piping to the rear of a SWB truck. I now run Magnaflow (Stainless steel ) mufflers and they are only loud when you get into the throttle hard. I had a couple sets of Flowmaster mufflers and they were too loud and they rusted out in about a year's time (both sets). The stainless mufflers are still on the truck after 3 years and still sound great. My exhaust tips are just under my roll pan on my truck and they are the Megs brand stainless oval shaped tips.

This for my 81 C20 ,350 with LT1 manifolds 2 1/2" home made with mandrel bends Y- Pipe into a Magnaflow 2 1/2" into 3" y pipe transition. The rest consists of a Dynomax 3" single cat back for a 95 Chevy extended cab short box.

Re: what exhaust are you running?

on my ramp i have 454 15/8 longs to 2.5 pipes with no bends to short knock off cherry bombs with 2-3 feet straight pipes with turn downs. sounds great sitting there and if you are at the frint of the truck its not to loud but....... people do hear me a 1/2 mile out if i step down on her. she gets really loud really fast but in the cab is not as bad as one would think. my c20 with the 350 is stock to the cat and thats it. nothing more on it any more. nice sound light rumble no noise in the truck. not recommended for a nice truck tho. lol its on the list of crap to fix on hear. just dont know if i want to make a system like the ramp or buy one or go more stock as she is my daily and i work in rich people land......ramp system it is lol

X2 on the welded thrush mufflers. I think they sound amazing and for $30 I'll never buy flow master again. My exhaust has tailpipes coming out behind each rear tire. No cab drone at all.

It does sound loud for a idle . If it is loud at idle its definitely loud at cruise . It has a good chop to it . With a quieter exhaust you would not be giving up anything . The chop would still be there and would still turn heads . Mine is a lot quieter than that and I get compliments all the time the way it sounds . Quality controlled sound is much better in my opinion .

Are they turning heads because they like it or do the think it's obnoxious. Loud is not always better.

Anyone used the summit turbo mufflers? They claim to be made in the USA and I agree that the welded flowmaster type mufflers are annoying to drive.

Flowtech headers to 2-1/2" to cheapest generic mufflers, 2-1/4" out the back. All done with Mandrel-bent U's

No drone, Almost too quiet.

my truck is at the exhaust shop right now. Getting it done from the manifolds back with flowmaster 40s. Not sure what it's going to sound like. Doing true duals.

It will be loud and have drone . If you like loud that's ok . But if not you may want to call them .
