squeaking in my dash
Are the speedo cables known to get squeaky in our trucks? It's driving me insane

Re: squeaking in my dash
Is it a manual? My clutch gets all sorts of shrieky... Old throwout bearing. I'll replace it soon, but until then, I offer it incremental adjustments.
Also, there's a support (in a '74, anyway) just to the left of and under the glove box that tends to loosen up. And, not to be outdone, my e-brake assembly bolts backed off. After adding some lock washers and adjusting my clutch, I am again rolling in full Klingon Cloaking Mode. |
Re: squeaking in my dash
Automatic.... and it only squeaks when I start moving. Definitely speed related because it changes as I accelerate

Re: squeaking in my dash
Typed out a long response right before the power went out. Cables do wear out, you should be able to unplug it from the transmission and see if the noise goes away. That should tell you if the cable is the problem or it's somewhere deeper.

Yes, cables eventually require lube and will let you know by squeaking before they get jumpy, then break

Re: squeaking in my dash
thanks guys. That gives me something to do this weekend. Is this why my speedo kinda bounces instead of maintaining the speed reading?

Re: squeaking in my dash
Mine has started making noise too. Time for some lube. I just put the interior back in it too now tear the dash back out.
