53 floor shifter
Has anyone used one of these? If so is it an easy install? Also how long were these three speeds the same? Thanks.

Re: 53 floor shifter
I've used that shifter about 6 times.
Easy to install. Just need a bit of bending on the shift rods. |
Re: 53 floor shifter
Same basic design for 50 years, pretty much bullet proof. Make sure you get the truck version with the longer shift lever (your link in for a 64 Chevelle which has a lever designed to miss the front of a bench seat) or you will spend a lot of time with your right shoulder hunched down driving with one eye, I remember that from my first 57 truck. Got a car shifter for $5, ended making the shift lever longer, and I'm relatively short.

Re: 53 floor shifter
They are the best of the cheap universal shifters.
A Hurst shifter would be a lot better but end up costing over 400 bucks new by the time you bought shifter, correct handle and lever/rod kit. I've had one in my truck since 1989 and outside of taking it apart and cleaning and lubing it every few years it worked flawlessly. Luckily I didn't have to pay new price for it though. |

Thanks fellas.

Re: 53 floor shifter
JFYI putting any floor shifter in your truck won't make it shift any quicker. A little more precise though.
