62 with 78 front end and 2000 5.3 power steering question
1 Attachment(s)
Ok, I have a 62 C10, converted to 78 front end for disc's and a 78 power steering box..(i think) ready for power steering hose. What have you guys used? Return side no biggie, talking pressure side. Thanks

I used braided line. The fittings were adapted for the pressure, and none pressure side. An option would be to go and have the line made from a hydraulic shop. You would def. need the ends for a proper match. you can buy new ends from the auto parts store or grab some from the JY. BTW, That engine bay is sexy.

You can just swap the end-fitting at the box if you have the stock line to work with. OR you can cut and flare the correct ends on the "old" or the "new" hose, since you will have different fittings on each side.

Or you can find out exactly what year of steering box you have. If it were to be a newer one than a 78, say an 81ish or newer, you can get a hose for a newer truck and you would have o ring fittings on both ends.

Can't help with the proper hose, but I would do a search on Rockauto.com for different years until you found one that is close to the same length for what you need. The PS pump pressure side will be a 16 x 1.5 O ring fitting and can almost guarantee that your '78 PS gearbox pressure inlet side is a 11/16-18 thread with a 7/16 inverted flare. You can either cut off the PS gearbox end and flare it, or get an adapter fitting.

I used the stock hose and swaped the 1 inch fitting out of the back of my stock pump and installed it in the back of the ls pump and the st9ck line worked

My local mechanic also makes hoses so I just took the ends I needed, had him make new ones to match. Then he sent me home with 2 rolls of hose. I measured and cut them , took them back and he crimped the ends and charged me for ends. crimping. and the hose I used. I don't know if it was the cheapest route but I know I have what I needed.
