Gas tank filler Grommet
I replaced the filler neck grommet 6 months ago when I had the tank out. It has already degraded and falling apart. I bought a new one that is suppose to be better from GMCPaul. Question is: Has anyone removed/replaced the grommet without removing the tank or do I already know the answer? Thanks

That's what I expected to hear!:waah:

Re: Gas tank filler Grommet
You can replace the grommet with the tank in place. Use masking tape and plastic tools to work it in place to avoid scratching the paint. Helps to lube it up with some soap or windex.

Re: Gas tank filler Grommet
I just installed one with the tank in place, place the gasket in hot, soapy water (lots of soap), and I gently worked it into place with a flat screwdriver.

Re: Gas tank filler Grommet
You can remove an install a gasket easily with the tank in place.

Awesome, thanks for tips!

Re: Gas tank filler Grommet
I installed one with the tank in place, and it didn't seem too difficult - but then I realized I'd put the thing on inside-out. Oh well - it still looks OK that way, and it's easier to get that thing installed inside-out if you are installing it from the "wrong" direction.

Re: Gas tank filler Grommet
And buy a grommet from Wes here on the board and it will not crack.

Re: Gas tank filler Grommet
All I had was some WD40 and a plastic trim tool. Went in fairly easy, no problems.

Re: Gas tank filler Grommet
If all that fails heat up the gromet and use some KY jelly. but you got it on.
