250 i6 power steering upgrade, new pitman arm and rag joint?

1 Attachment(s)
Howdy, so I just found a pump bracket and pulley for my 250 and decided to order all the other parts I need for the swap. Does anybody know if I need a new pitman arm to put this 86 steering box on my 72. Some people say yes and some say no. If I need a new one which one do I need. Same thing with the rag joint, do I need a different one?:mm:

You will need to order the pitman arm and rag joint for the vehicle you are ordering the box for. I personally suggest using a late 70's model to stay away from the newer style oring fittings.

I think your saying match them to the box and get the 86 arm and rag joint. Aside from changing the box altogether that is. Or did you mean order the joint and arm for a 72 with power steering, lol, sorry.

I think your saying get a 72 arm and joint no matter what box I get. Are the o-rings really that bad?

What he means by the o-rings I thinks is the top of the steering box where the power steering line go in. Sometime in the late 70'very early 80's the threads were changed from an o-ringed type to a flared metric type. The fix is pretty easy to do either by changing the power steering lines to the newer models or several companies like Lee manufacturing make adapters or the easiest is to remove the big nut from the back of the housing[or pump that is the pressure regulator] and use the one from a newer pump it will have the newer type fitting then it will be the same on both sides. Thanks hugger, I ordered new lines , pump, and box all from the same year but if they don't match up I read that converting is pretty easy.
