1964 K10 292 Power Steering: Pump?
I picked up a 1986 front axle and 1987 K10 V8 power steering gear box and pump and the Captain's PS adapter plate. I haven't changed anything yet. I have searched the forum but not sure of my options for the pump. Before I buy anymore stuff, what are my options for the pump? Can I use the 1987 pump with 1964 brackets? Or should I use a different pump? Thanks.

If you are using the same year box and pump I don't know why you couldn't use it. The fittings are probably metric so get the hoses too or get them made up accordingly.
Unless the 64 pump looks different than the popular Saginaw that they made millions of. That may be a different kettle of fish for getting it mounted. I know that brackets for the I6 are rare and expensive. |

The pumps themselves are the same for many years. The sheetmetal cans surrounding the pumps vary, as do the pressure fittings screwed into the back. The hose end screws into the pressure fitting so its actually the PF that changes to mettric in later years.
You need to find brackets to fit the can, bolt to your engine, and pulley (or pulleys) to make it go. I'd probably start w/ a later (73+) 292 (or maybe 250?) pump and brackets. |
