production numbers 4x4
What are the production numbers of the 4x4 trucks from 67-72? And the approximate numbers that were scrapped would be good too.
|
Re: production numbers 4x4
Which make and which model? The numbers are out there. You just have to choose which one. there are Chevys & GMCs and there are SWB or LWB Stepsides/Fendersides or Fleetside/wideside 10 series, then same in 20 series, Suburban 10s & 20s, Panel 10s & 20s, and Blazer/Jimmys. Cab & chassis, too

Re: production numbers 4x4
Now that I look, I wasn't specific at all! My bad. 67-72 long fleet 4x4. Sorry for not specifying. I will try and research some more, so far I've only found 2wd.

Re: production numbers 4x4
This is the most complete listing of production numbers you will find:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=104816 You will not find any info on GMCs as all production data was lost in a fire. There is also no known "survivor count" for these trucks that I've ever seen. However, I would guess that the majority of 4x4's went to the northeast and other harsh weather environments. People didn't buy a 4x4 as a fashion statement back then, it was meant to be used, so I would have to guess there is a low % of 4x4 survivor trucks out there. |
Re: production numbers 4x4
The east had mostly work horses and the west had the higher optioned 4wds. Pickups were always in style out there and it was GM responding to that when they built fancy 4wds. The same is true for 2wds, except in the S/E. 4wds were well received all across the north. Just elaborating on Jesse's comments. Who knows how many are out there still. All I know is i'm down to just one, and it's a GMC

Re: production numbers 4x4
I believe there a much less 4x4 out here than 2 wd trucks. It seems with a few exceptions they are getting kinda hard to find and when you do they are more likely to be beat to hell. It took me a while to find what I was looking for. They are out there however. at least where I am located they are 4-1 2wd to 4wd

Re: production numbers 4x4
Thank you guys for all the help, that link gave me exactly what I was looking for. I wish there were more 4x4s out there, I guess that is why we use 2wd bodies for our 4x4 frames.

Re: production numbers 4x4
Me too. They're like "hens teeth" in my location. I never see one unless I go to a huge show like the Charlotte Auto Fair. The shortbed K10s (the real ones, most are cut down longbeds or frame swap trucks) are real hard to find too.
Ironically, everyone wants a 2wd blazer and most of the blazers were 4x4s. 69 was the first year for the blazer and they were only offered as 4x4. A 2wd version was offered in 70 and from 70-72 only 5,619 2wd blazers were built. TOTAL. |
Re: production numbers 4x4
That is better than me! I've only seen 2 67-72s! EVER... a mystery 67/68 short step 2wd and a 2wd long fleet gmc, I tried to buy both and was shot down on both, lol. I found one in indiana for sale, for 4500 you get a 2wd in great shape and a beat to sheet 4x4, I'm really considering those!

I saw one today! Gorgeous truck too! Longbed, of course. Sorry for the crappy pics, the sun was blaring and I couldn't see my screen.
There was another 71/72 longbed 4x4 there, but it was on an 88-98 frame. Kinda cool, didn't take pics though. My 2wd is still stock height and it looks lowered next to it! |
Re: production numbers 4x4
Looks like a k/20 cheyenne. Beautiful truck for sure!

Re: production numbers 4x4
That's a members K20 - 52napco - recent purchase. We've been drooling over that one a lot lately: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=311
What's up w the missing hubcap on the RH front wheel? |
Re: production numbers 4x4
Holy crap, yes that's it! It was at the "cars and coffee" today at the Michelin Headquarters in Greenville, SC. I kinda kept looking around to see if the owner was around... but never saw him and I had a lot to do today, so I didn't stay long.
There was a couple decent sized local shows today so the C&C today was noticeably void of classics... |

I was there for an hour or so. And yes it a 72K20 Cheyenne Super. Just got my hubcaps in from frank this afternoon. The other truck is actually on a 1998 Dodge 2500 frame with 360 etc. Its a good friend of mines truck and although a "hybrid" its a pretty cool truck. Hopefully I'll have my 72 K10 done in a few months. Here's a pic of it.

Re: production numbers 4x4
I love both of those! Sweet trucks guys!

Re: production numbers 4x4
Factory short wheel base?
|
Re: production numbers 4x4
Yes factory short 4x4 72,000 miles a/c auto tilt wheel etc. Bought out in King man AZ and the
Best body I've ever seen on a 4wd truck. I seem to have a hubcap fetish in my old age. |
Re: production numbers 4x4
I look forward to seeing it done!
That's awesome! Are you a member of our local truck club yet? We meet once a month and have a pretty big group. The majority of us are based out of Greenville/Taylors/Greer. https://www.facebook.com/groups/UpstateGMtrucks/ http://upstategmtrucks.com/ |

That's why I plan on hanging on to my 70 swb 4x4 fleet. Only 2554 made. :metal:

Here is acc of my 72 true swb 4x4 with air. I have had three that were true swb 4x4 trucks, but this one was only one I wanted to hold on to, the rest were low/ no option trucks as are many around this area- western nc. Not a ton of 4x4 around period long or short but where I currently live, there are a lot of long wheel base 4x4 trucks per capita compared to 2wd, at least in my town. The town I grew up in had 4 short 4x4 trucks total to my knowledge, and I have owned or own three of them.

Re: production numbers 4x4
Am I reading right? under 1500 68 short/wide 4x4s made?
I always knew it was rare, didn't expect that it was that rare though |
Re: production numbers 4x4
Friend of mine just picked up an original 1972 Chevrolet K10 Shortbed Cheyenne...any idea of the production run ...possibly only 35K on it. Thanks in advance y'all
