New tires rub only on one side

2 Attachment(s)
So I put new wheels and tires on the truck today. Its a 78 K20 and it had stock 16.5 rims and stock size tires. I put on 33x12.50 tires on 17x9 rims. The drivers side front fits just fine but the passenger side rubs on the door side of the fender when I turn right. Here's a before and after photo.

looks like that wheel is sure out there didn't get a wheel with a different off set? do some measuring or swap it to rear see if it changes

They're all supposed to be the same but I'll have to check that. Hopefully I can find the problem. I want to lift it some anyways but if there is some sort problem I want to figure it out and correct it if I can.

try checking your front pass cab mount, if it's rusted or the bushing is shot, it will drag the fender down

I'd be checking all the cab mount cushions. They have a notorious habit of failure.

And that's why I posted it here. Thanks for the ideas. Hopefully I can get out today and check those.

And check the steering stop bolts on the knuckles,Some one could have messed with them or ones missing.

You have reached the limit of a stock lift. I used to run 33-12.50's on my K20 with 8 inch rims and they rubbed slightly on tight turns. That extra inch of rim width is causing your problem. When I went to 35's I had to lift it and cut the fender some. I usually don't mind cutting a front fender unless it is a nice original one....like yours. Hindsight is 20/20 and yo probably can't return those wheels and tires now, so you may have to think about lifting it some or cutting those fenders. Hopefully some new body mounts may help you out. My K20 had worn out body mounts that probably lost a little height.

Another possible reason it only rubs on one side vs both (w/a tire size that's @ the height limit) can be due to different alignment setting for each side.

I'm OK with doing a slight lift if I have to. This is not an off road truck. It's actually my wife's truck. She just let's me do the work to it. :) I had a terribly hard time convincing her to get rid of the stock 16.5 rims. Her dad bought it brand new as a farm truck and she has sentimental attachment to it as all stock.

I could have bought smaller tires but...why do that? Lol. Those are as big as I was allowed to get.

Re: New tires rub only on one side

I think I have it figured out. After lots of measuring all over I found out that the cab and fender slid forward on the passenger side. The old rubber cab mounts look OK but after almost 40 years of farm life I'd be willing to bet they're not in the best of shape. For now I took a sawsall to the old rusted fender and made the tire fit.
