Smooth Runningboards

So what's the deal on making our Runningboards smooth? Is it very hard to do? I found some on eBay for $450. i want to know how guy's are doing this. Step by step pictures or illustration would be great.

Thanks

cut out the recess or raised part, weld in new flat metal, grind, fill, paint. Worry about keeping them from being bent, scratched, etc....

Aren't they slippery enough as stock ? Even in winterless CA I want some traction getting in and out of the truck.

I'm going to have the aluminum bow tie steps on powder coated black and I will tell everyone to only step on that. If they don't like that they don't have to ride in my truck:sumo: lol

Re: Smooth Runningboards

I have two sets...bought one set, made one set. Then I bought a second set.
I will have to look for pics but the set I bought I used as a pattern, I used 1/2" round stock to get the radius needed at the end and bent the flat stock around it.
I will say they turned out good after plastic and primer but having the right tools helps.
My FIL helped a ton and is a wizard with metal and the tools he has that I do not.
In the end I was not totally happy with them so I sold them to a guy and went with a stronger set I bought

If you don't mind fiberglass, these will work. Won't ever rust.

Got them here....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/new-Innovati...-/281621277363

two different designs...one wraps around the fender the others do not.
I am 230 and stand on them with no issues but try not to due to not wanting to scratch them

i'd rather not worry about the scratches, the 3m film is cheap insurance

Another option is Smoothie Fabrications. Couldn't find a website though here is their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/smoothiefabrication

I emailed them back, told them about the $450 on eBay see what they say. That price did not include shipping. I also ask for pictures and if they have a website.
