Smooth Runningboards
So what's the deal on making our Runningboards smooth? Is it very hard to do? I found some on eBay for $450. i want to know how guy's are doing this. Step by step pictures or illustration would be great.
Thanks |
Re: Smooth Runningboards
cut out the recess or raised part, weld in new flat metal, grind, fill, paint. Worry about keeping them from being bent, scratched, etc....

Re: Smooth Runningboards
Aren't they slippery enough as stock ? Even in winterless CA I want some traction getting in and out of the truck.

Re: Smooth Runningboards
I'm going to have the aluminum bow tie steps on powder coated black and I will tell everyone to only step on that. If they don't like that they don't have to ride in my truck:sumo: lol

Re: Smooth Runningboards
I have two sets...bought one set, made one set. Then I bought a second set.
I will have to look for pics but the set I bought I used as a pattern, I used 1/2" round stock to get the radius needed at the end and bent the flat stock around it. I will say they turned out good after plastic and primer but having the right tools helps. My FIL helped a ton and is a wizard with metal and the tools he has that I do not. In the end I was not totally happy with them so I sold them to a guy and went with a stronger set I bought |

Re: Smooth Runningboards
If you don't mind fiberglass, these will work. Won't ever rust.

Got them here....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/new-Innovati...-/281621277363 two different designs...one wraps around the fender the others do not. I am 230 and stand on them with no issues but try not to due to not wanting to scratch them http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...k/DSC03728.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...k/DSC03727.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...k/IMG_0247.jpg.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psaxgsxsok.jpg |
Re: Smooth Runningboards
no way to keep people off any running board, especially kids. it is a step after all
look at 3m paint protection film. i have in my door wells, 25,000 miles with zero scratches |

Hell no! Nobody steps on my running boards!!!

Re: Smooth Runningboards
i'd rather not worry about the scratches, the 3m film is cheap insurance

Re: Smooth Runningboards
