Front fender questions
I have two questions about the front fenders on a 86 or 87 pickup.
1. Did GM stamp the part numbers in the fenders? If so, where? 2. On factory paint jobs, was the engine compartment side of the front fender the same as the body color? I ask these to figure out if the pair of fenders I recently purchased are "original GM fenders' or aftermarket. Any advice would be welcomed. |
Re: Front fender questions
I can answer the first question for sure. That is no. GM will/might have casting, stamping , or engineering numbers on the part but they are almost never the same as the service part number. One engineering number could supply any number of service parts. depending on things like holes drilled, machining differences, associated attached parts to make a final assembled service part.
On the inside of the fenders they were painted the body color sort of. What I have observed, the amount of paint on the insides of the body panels was usually equivalent to a little bit better than overspray. No what I would call a full painting. |
Re: Front fender questions
Thanks for the info. Maybe the fenders I bought are originals like the seller said.
