1970 factory looking seat cover
 

Anyone have a source for these cheaper than what I am finding? $285 seems to be the norm on these and that seems steep to me for a cover.

I agree they are way more expensive than I thought also. I just paid 249 with an additional 25% discount at Classic Industries this past weekend. After looking at all the sites I could find this seems to be about the the average price (249) so I just waited for a bigger discount and ordered my whole new interior. Don't forget you will most likely need foam also and there;s another 140 or so. Going to install myself so I least i'll save some money there. I'll post a pic when it gets here and I see what it looks like.

When reproduction seat covers first came out 25 years ago they were over $300 and we were just glad to have them available*. Competition and all the new people into these trucks creating more sales has brought the price down, which is great. Not much out there selling for less than it cost 25 years ago. I never thought I'd see the day when bargain shopping was part of truck restoration. Just adding perspective here, that's all.

* This was when jaws dropped at the sight of a mint loaded Cheyenne Super big block for $10k

I've dealt with the same shop for for many years and get treated right, to say the least. but he can't sell the ready made covers any cheaper than a Chevy truck parts business that sells hundreds of parts on a website. I get my break on the install and custom work, as well as willing to do my ideas, including letting me do the parts of it I can do. He'll supply me the hardware and I bring it to him ready to finish, such as custom tonneau applications and cycle seats

My complete cloth cover from Carsinc cost $400 in September of 2013.

I'm very happy with the workmanship - it looks just like it would have in October of 1970 when it was made !!!

I agree using a quality local shop to do the cover is best and mine would do it for 300 all including foam and fixing any springs. Only problem was he could do the scroll pattern and that is what I like best in the interior. Has offered to come by and point out my novice flaws as I assemble if I have beer. On my next one I plan to do more custom job and want a fancier seat so he will get the work for sure.

MY LOCAL GUY DOESN'T SELL OR MAKE FACTORY CORRECT SEATCOVERS BUT IF YOU GO IN WITH A PICTURE HE'LL MAKE SOMETHING THAT LOOKS SIMILAR AND IF YOU CAN MATCH UP FROM HIS REMNANT COLLECTION SOMETHING THAT WILL DO THE JOB HE'LL MAKE A VERY NICE SIMILAR SEATCOVER AND INSALL IT FOR MANY MANY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS LESS THAN WHAT THE "factory correct covers ARE GOING TO COST YOU FOR THE COVERS ALONE/// LAST JOB HE DID A PAIR OF BUCKETS FOR ME WITH A TWEED INSERT THAT ON CLOSER INSPECTION WERE NOT HERINGBONE BUT MANY MANY GUYS LOOKED AND THOUGHT THEY WERE COST ME $125 FOR BOTH SEATS INSTALLED IN A DAY

$250 seems reasonable to have original style material. plus I'd rather install them myself, this way everything is done to my liking, Foam removal, complete painting of frame and springs, Ect. In my neck of the woods, most of this type of work is done by non American people, so I'd rather do it myself and save the aggravation of a pretty outside, but inferior inside restoration

OUCH!!!! I do appreciate the advice and input.In my area we are talking $450 up for a shop and its one of those things that just helps to quickly get to where its cheaper to buy a truck already done. I always bargain shop on everything part of my nature maybe.

Nothing wrong with looking for the best price. That wasn't my point. My point was there was a time when we were just happy that OEM style seat covers became available for correct restoration. And we were paying more back 25 years go when food, gas, clothing, housing, vehicles were 1/2 what they cost now. From my perspective I am happy the same covers can be had for less now. You do your own truck for the pleasure/satisfaction, to do it your own way, and/or to spread out the expense. It certainly is a fact that your best bargain will be buying one already done, when you find one the way you'd like... and the seller doesn't want a "bumped my head" price.

I don't want to derail the thread too much here, but when one wants to paint the frame and springs, what prep work is necessary?

The same has any rust removal procedure. Fix any damage springs replace weld Ect
