fr. outside tire wear ?
I have a 2 WD short box with a 350 ,lowered spindles and one coil cut with new 235/70/15 tire s on the front with a new alignment ,but I noticed I,m getting some outside tire wear or scrubbing when turning. Is this sorta normal on these trucks or is there something I can tell the alignment shop to do.

You can do a neanderthal check of both in your driveway. You can use an angle gauge for the camber & a tape measure using a select groove in the tire tread for the toe (pick a select groove & do all measuring from the same point on the front/rear of both tires). Measure the distance between the selected groove for the front side of the tire. Repeat the process for the rear. The difference between them is your 'toe' in inches. The angle finder works similar in that you center something rigid on the wheel rim lip & subtract the angle on the gauge from 90° to get the camber. If it appears to be tilted in @ the top that's negative camber. If it appears to tilt outward @ the top that's positive camber. I don't remember off the top of my head the exact factory spec'd numbers (& don't utilize them anyway) but I've set-up 'driveway' alignments @ -0.50 negative camber & zero - 1/1"6 total toe-in for decent driving & minimal/no tire wear. |

Is the wear a harsh edge or is it more of a feathering? ( is itsame on both sides) If you just had an alignment done, I'd take the truck back and let them know whats happening. If you just had it in their shop with new tires and its already wearing down, then either the alignment was never right, something else was worn out before you did this other stuff, or there was an anomaly that occured in the time between then and now. A couple possibilities; worn wheel bearing, bent rim, worn pitman arm, if it was a non-power steering truck that was converted its possible the box is off-angle, worn balljoints letting the camber wander, bad shocks or wrong shocks for the drop. |
Re: fr. outside tire wear ?
Sorry I thought I put the year in,Is a 1980,power steering ,new ball joints, bearings.Stock steering components. Is feathering on both outside edges.Someone pointed out that it could be from the roads being wore down abit from all the semi,s and heavy trucks.
