Beautiful 1972 Cheyenne on LA Craiglist
1 Attachment(s)
Not mine, but this is just about my favorite look. Non-original Medium red and white deluxe 2 tone. The seats are obviously not original, but are way cool. I wonder if it might be a board member's truck. I do have a question of the experts. I hate to call the owner because I am just a tire kicker at this price. The SPID looks original to me. If the cab is original to the truck, shouldn't it have a cargo light? Not trying to nit pick, but I thought all Cheyennes had a cargo light. Regardless, it is beautiful!

Re: Beautiful 1972 Cheyenne on LA Craiglist
Wow I love the colors, wheels, and stance of this truck. Looks to me like it's the correct hugger orange but they are so close. I think you're right about the cargo light should be on there. I also notice SPID says leaf spring and CL ad mentions an ECE 4.5/6 drop. I believe the ECE drop is for trailing arm suspension only. Could just be a collection of parts with a desirable SPID. I'd love to have it never the less - but maybe for around 18k. Wait ad says VIN, SPID, and frame match hmmmmm.....

Re: Beautiful 1972 Cheyenne on LA Craiglist
Factory Cheyenne cabs do have a cargo lamp
|
Re: Beautiful 1972 Cheyenne on LA Craiglist
Its coded 524, solid red orange (hugger orange),so the Deluxe Two-Tone was added at some point.
Belt molding was added. Chromed vent window frames are missing. Cargo lamp is missing. It does appear to be an original SPID for the year and plant. All in all its a nice but modified truck. |
Re: Beautiful 1972 Cheyenne on LA Craiglist
Thanks for the replies, that is the type of information I am interested in. Are the sport mirrors standard or would that be added also? The are not called for on the SPID

Re: Beautiful 1972 Cheyenne on LA Craiglist
It sure is pretty. My guess is its been re-cabed. As long as the VIN rivets are correct alls good.

Thanks for the good comments but as far as all the speculations of what the truck "is not", it's just disrespectful.
Cargo light was shaved when truck was repainted. It's not an original 2 tone truck due to SPID says Red Orange, not White/Red Orange/ White, but I'm very happy it was 2 toned. The vents windows are chrome but for some reason were painted black. All the body mouldings are original. This is a TRUE Cheyenne. It's 90% ECE suspension. 2.5" drop spindles & 2" drop springs in the front. Drop 4" leafs with 2" Western Chassis shackles. I had the ECE shackles but they were only 1.5" drop. SPID says what for suspension? Also request a new ECE catalog & look at the truck on the cover!!! As far as the rediculous comment of cab swap: SPID sheet, Cab VIN tag and frame have matching VIN... if they did VIN tag swap they did a hell of a job. This is not a collection of parts slapped together. I guess people just can't pick up the phone anymore. Thanks for all the info "experts":ito: |

i think you guys found the owner...

Re: Beautiful 1972 Cheyenne on LA Craiglist
Strange that someone would shave the cargo light, but worse things have been done to a truck. Either way a beautiful truck. Can't find the CL ad now? You guys scared him off.

You explained the cargo lamp. You explained the chrome vent windows. Any serious buyer is going to wonder about those, and that's why the board members were pointing them out. Those are questions people need to ask you when they call so they can be reassured that they are getting what they think they are getting. Reno was guessing it was a cab swap. He didn't say it was. He can guess whatever he wants. Your picture of the VIN plate, and your explanation of the cargo light clarifies that. As far as the belt molding, it is not on your SPID. That is not part of the Cheyenne package. So either someone added it at come point in the last 44 years, or ????? Overall it's a gorgeous truck. Anyone paying decent money for the truck would want an answer to the questions that were posted here. In my opinion the answers that you gave would satisfy 98% of the buyers, I know they would satisfy me. The only reason some might not be satisfied is because they might be looking for something 100% original. That is a small contingent of buyers, and it's not something I would worry about with a truck that looks like yours does. No one said it's a piece of crap. No one said it's ugly. No one was being disrespectful. You have a very, very nice truck. It's definitely one to be proud of. |

Since I am considered an expert in SPID and option coding I would like to touch on a couple of your points. But my original assement, based upon the pictures provided, stands. Quote:
The chromed ventilator frames painted black does indeed make them look like the base truck parts as well. While your truck is a true Z84 Cheyenne it was not built with the B85 upper bodyside (belt) moldings it currently has. They would have been called out on the SPID as an added option. Even if the truck had been coded as a Deluxe Two-Tone they still would show as a seperate option on the SPID. As to your suspension question, the truck was built with the optional G70 rear leaf spring suspension at the base spring capacity. |

Nice truck and I love the color!

Re: Beautiful 1972 Cheyenne on LA Craiglist
Not sure why you revived a year plus old thread to pick apart details on your truck(which I assume hasn't been for sale in a while)and doesn't seem to have much importance at this time. He said he was a tire kicker and implied in my eyes at least, that he didn't want to waste your time as a seller. He said your truck was nice and he had a couple of questions. I've dealt with mike over the phone and helped him buy his truck, he's a very nice guy. This thread has lost all productivity.
It is a very nice truck and I don't say that about many 2 wheel drive trucks! Just my .02. |

That being said I guess since it was my truck that this thread was about, I thought I had the right to say my .02.. looks like I was wrong.. looks like I stepped into the wrong bar to buy a beer.. All I know is if I was going to question someone's integrity, I would have took 5 mins and called to see if my concerns could be answered.. Or since he is not knowledgeable, he could have had one of his forum buddies call for him and ask the questions of concern. If he called and I said it's a 100% original and it's the best C10 on the market then yeah call me out on it.. I never portrayed this truck to more than my "non-expert" knowledge of it.. Even tho he was not in the financial ability to purchase it, someone else could have, but if they saw this thread and believed the cab swap & vin tag swap "opinions", then I could have lost a potential sale. If I revived this thread, so be it. I stumbled on it by accident this morning, looking up the paint code listed on my SPID. I have a right to contend the bogus speculations on my truck.. looks like the only thing it's not is an upper molding truck. Loos like everyone is looking at it by his vantage point, but what if I made a thread about his truck he was selling and he had no knowledge of it and all these bogus theories were thrown out there.. Should he not have the right to say his .02?? All would have been avoided if dude would have called and found out I was a forum memeber. I'm all about learning, I have an addiction with these trucks and refer to this site often. But if the support is about who you know not what you know then maybe I was wrong about this site. |
