Questions about frame and drive line
Hey guys new to this forum and can't tell you enough of the great information that is being passed on.
I bought a 52 SB 1/2 ton and want to start getting parts lined up and tear down under way. A previous owner had completed a semi resto but every thing needs to be redone. What I'm trying to figure out is the frame and front end they used. It looks like they swapped the frame but didn't use s10 frame. The front end looks like a 60-80 IFS that has been bolted in. The frame has cab mounts welded in but the frame looks narrower because new cab mount bolts were installed inward about 2inchs on each one. The rear end is a 12 bolt that has been mounted also. I will try and get some pics up so you can see what I'm talking about, thanks in advance for any information. |
Re: Questions about frame and drive line
I'm assuming the guy you bought it from isn't any help either..
It sounds like it might be a little bit of a (excuse the expression) hack job. Bolting a front frame clip to the chassis. I would probably concider a hole new s10 chassis swap just for piece of mind driving down the road. |
Re: Questions about frame and drive line
I wish I could figure out how to post pics otherwise I would so every one coud see. The frame looks in good condition so I was thinking a weld in Mustang II IFS and box the entire frame.
I heard of guys using C10 IFS on AD trucks but they would have to cut and narrow the ifs to fit in a stock frame. Has anyone used a C10 frame for a chassis conversion? |

Re: Questions about frame and drive line
That looks to be a 73-87 frame. The 12 bolt was only axle until 1980 then 10 bolt became standard with 12 bolt as option. It would be safe to order everything for a 78 1/2 ton.
Have fun with your new project. |
