cordless drill ?
 

Both my cordless drills suck, one is a dewalt, other one is black and decker(I think). Whats a good one to buy, I don't use one often but would like to get a decent one? I don't need a high dollar one or a cheap one. Thanks for any help, Randy

I just bought a 20 volt Li-Ion DeWalt last week and I like it a lot.
A couple things to note about DeWalt:
Their 20 volt is the same as everyone else's 18 volt. They all have 20 volts for a very short period of time and then sit at 18 volts for quite a while. So don't let the 20 volt vs 18 volt have any bearing on your decision.
DeWalt has quite a few different drills, they have cheap "home owner" drills and nicer "contractor" drills.

I have an 18 volt dewalt drill and a 12 volt max dewalt drill. The 12 volt max drill is hands down better. It's smaller, lighter, has more torque, and the batteries last longer. It also costs more.

Any cordless drill battery over 5 years old is probably garbage. And the price of a new drill is usually cheaper than 2 new batteries for the old one.

I have one of these. It also came with the impact driver. Works great in my garage.

get a rigid. and they sell a kit with the impact. most awesome set I have ever bought. and oh yea lifetime warranty on batteries

I love my 18v lithium ion Makita stuff. I got the impact driver and the drill with 2 batteries and charger from home depot for 200 bucks. My dad has had the same set for 7 or 8 years. My brother has the same set as well and its gotta be 6 or 7 years old. They have all been very very well used and never an issue.

my 5 yr old milwaukee cordless hammer drill's batteries are on their last leg, one barely holds a charge
i'll soon be in the market for a new one; i want a hammer drill/impact driver combo
the hammer drill sets cost a little more but i do enough electrical work to warrant the extra cost
if you do much screw driving like deck screws the cordless impacts are great

I got the 20 volt Porter Cable drill/impact a couple months ago for like $115 sure do like it , that impact is the BEE'S KNEES Brutha :lol:

This has been my experience too. Makita makes 2 different grades. Make sure you get the blue ones. The white models are disposable. My brushless impact driver has been dropped 15 feet from scaffolding more times than I care to admit and my Hammer drill combo has drilled thousands of holes with 3/4" ship auger bits without burning up. On my 3rd round of batteries in 8 years, but they get used daily.

I miss using my Makita. Batteries died, had them rebuilt. Then died again real soon. Bought a DeWalt and its good but I liked the old Makita better.
Drilling is better with the DeWalt.

I've had no issues using Ryobi cordless power tools.

The only issue I have with my Ryobi tools is whenever I need them, my sons have misplaced them; they like them a lot too. My first pair of batteries are about ten years old and still going. :metal:
