Pulling my hair out looking for a lower radiator hose.
4 Attachment(s)
Should be a simple task to continue with a project. Need a lower radiator hose for a 68 GMC 3/4. Was a v6 truck now a 87 350. Here is a basic template. The sharp "P" shape bend to clear the frame is the problem. A universal kinks at the bend. I'm even willing to put 2 hoses together but after 45 min in two different parts stores hose walls I am still at a loss. I can't find any section of hose in 1 3/4 that will make that bend.

autozone has the correct hose, you have to cut about 4" off it. it will look like its going to kink till you get it the right length

It will take a while but I'd take your template to the parts store and try to match it up with one on the "wall of hoses".

Re: Pulling my hair out looking for a lower radiator hose.
I wouldn't expect any parts stores to carry many parts in stock for these old trucks. Most can have it next day however.

I had the same issue but I gave up and bought an aluminum hose kit. It was $70 but looks great. Cut to fit, easy as pie.

Gates 20694 is the lower radiator hose

autozone Part Number: E70664
when you look at the hose it looks like there is no way it will fit but it does |
Re: Pulling my hair out looking for a lower radiator hose.
Both Dayco and Gates have a catalog that has a picture of the hoses based on hose inside dia. It's getting harder to find a parts store where they are willing to break out the books though.

Re: Pulling my hair out looking for a lower radiator hose.
I would go universal.or modify the radiator.. my c10 has a c20 3/4 chassis that someone chopped the springs way to low. it bottoms out. the lower rad hose douse hit the frame but they put a rubber piece on the frame to protect the hose from rubbing....good luck.

I put this hose on my truck on Sunday afternoon. It is a cut-to-fit as Dirtyjim said. Fits like a glove. You should be able to find it at any parts store. |

Ran into the same situation with my radiator. Get the AC Delco AC24053L off Ebay for 13 bucks. Did some small trimming and it fit perfectly.

Re: Pulling my hair out looking for a lower radiator hose.
not the best pic but the hose comes off the water pump and rides the top of the frame down. the hose in post #14 is for a later model truck but they work too
