Who sells the best turn signal switch?

Need to replace the turn signal switch in my daily driver 66 i just picked up. Who sells the best quality switch or what brand should i look for? Of course my turn signals are not working but my brake lights are a no-go also. According to the wiring diagram the white wire from the brake light switch runs thru the turn signal switch, not sure if that is the problem or not. Anyway thanks for the help. Joseph

If it's a daily driver, purchase a Wells, part# SW3027.

I tried to save money and used one that Grumpy's truck parts in Phoenix, Arizona sold that was an aftermarket that lasted about a year. I took it apart and repaired the contacts and that lasted about three months. I then order this one AC DELCO Part # D6202 and has been in my truck for 6 years now. They are more money than the aftermarket ones and getting harder to find but well worth the extra money.

American Auto Wire is also a good one.

I had the same experience. It wasn't fun when my brake lights and turn signals stopped functioning properly. Got the oem style ac delco and it is much better quality.

X2. I had nothing but trouble with the cheaper switches. Bought the AC Delco switch from Classic Industries and no more problems.

Starts with unplugging the switch from the harness under the dash and removing the steering wheel. Once the wheel is off, you will have access to the screw that holds the turn signal lever on. Remove the lever. There are three screws that hold the turn signal switch in place. I find it easier to also remove the column cover ( 2 screws under the column)to allow easier access to reroute the switch couplings back through also. The switch cup that mounts to the column and holds the turn signal switch will rotate counter clockwise (part 36 in the 2nd diagram) and then you can remove the switch from the column. Reinstalls in the opposite order.

The 2nd diagram is from a 71 column, but the parts are in the correct order. Hope this helps.

AC Delco D6202 from walmart.com for $78. Free shipping

Wow, Walmart. I had to look it up for myself, that would be the last thing I would expect to see on Walmart.com. I was thinking about ordering the "premium" switch from Classic Parts only because I need some other stuff too. Are their switches any good? Thanks for all the help guys. Joe

Re: Who sells the best turn signal switch?

A little off topic, but as I understand it, the '66 GMC uses a 1963 model turn signal switch. Can anyone confirm this or not before I start ordering parts and tearing things apart?

Thanks

Newbe351:
That's correct on the 66 GMC using the same switch as the 63 Chevy.

Re: Who sells the best turn signal switch?

I bought a brand new switch from "Classic Parts of America" but it should probably be called Classic Parts of China... lasted a total of 56 miles. After reading the previous posts in this thread the "AC Delco" switch had good reviews so I found one on Rock Auto. After ordering I realized they had substituted some Chinese junk for my "AC Delco" search so I was tricked again. Yes, my fault for not staying alert and questioning every step.

I believe mine came from Classic industries a number of years ago but I don't use the truck much. So far it's been good.

I have had my truck for over 8 years now and the American Autowire Switch is doing fine.

Re: Who sells the best turn signal switch?

An older thread, but has anyone had any recent experience with buying a decent good quality switch?

I bought one from Classic Parts in 2023 that said "Chevy OE quality". It hasn't lasted long; the right signal works and cancels fine, and the left one works but has to be in a certain position to work (but cancels fine). The spring contact points in it look to be really cheap flimsy metal.

It seems there's plenty of aftermarket ones out there, but they all look to be the same quality. I suspect some of the suppliers mentioned in this thread have now moved to some of these cheaper parts (but prices are still...pricey), hence the question: has anyone had any recent success in buying a good quality turn signal switch?

Re: Who sells the best turn signal switch?

You absolutely must buy an NOS one if you want to do the job once. Aftermarket sucks as you have experienced (as did I).

Here is the whole switch assembly, p/n 910821. Depending on exactly what is wrong with your current switch, you may be able to just replace the Cancelling Cam Arm, p/n 5957015.
