3.5" backspace??

Hey guys, I am looking at a set of 17x9 wheels for my crew cab build. Does anybody have any negatives of 3.5 backspace on a wheel? I don't want to throw massive amounts of grime over my truck after spending so much time on details. I really didn't know how far they would stick out on one of our trucks. Thanks Trevor

I'm surprised anything has so little backspace. The trend had been toward more and that being an issue on our trucks. Are newer vehicles back to more inset mounting points but with more spacer built into the wheel?

That backspace would be about right for a 15" wheel, in order to not hot the tire rod end. But on a 17x9" you could, and would want to run, a little more backspacing. What size tires will you run?

I had 17x9 with 4.5 on my 04. I plan on that for my green one. I bet it's plenty wide that way, but I'm not terribly worried about the stick out. I like it. I think with 3.5 you will be out there a ways. Depends on tires of course and what axles you run. I've forgotten what you're set up is there

I've settled on a 17 x 9, with 4.5 "backspace -12 offset. Planning 35/12.50/17 tires. Axles are the GM Dana 60 srw front and 2003 aam 11.5 3/4 to 1 ton rear end srw. The 3.5 backspace would push the tires out too much for me. Thanks guys Trevor

I can't imagine what a 3.5" backspace 9" 8-lug wheel would be right for. I do see a lot of newer trucks where guys are running that skateboard wheel look, though. Is that a new trend and these are wheels to satisfy the demand?

I'm with the other guys, that's the wrong BS for such a large rim size. I ran 3 5/16" Centerline ProTrucks on my Jimmy in 15x10 with 35 12.50 15's on the stock axles. I now have 8 lug spindles/hubs swapped onto my original Dana44 and a 9.5" 14 bolt in the back with 4.5" back space 16.5x9.75 Centerlines. The 4.5" seems to be a near perfect choice IMO.

Well after placing several orders and getting refunded, I finally found out that the 17x9 -12 offset Ansen Sprint (Slot) 8x6.5 (8x165.1) is now looking discontinued........ Great! Back to the drawing board!

I think it sucks too, if the old 16.5's ever get ever get discontinued that was gonna be an option.

Re: 3.5" backspace??

Ryan, I wanted 5 as well for a spare and because I wanted to make sure I was covered if they got discontinued. Found a big wheel warehouse on eBay that lists them for sale. Emailed them if they had a 5th for a spare and they said yes and when I called them a day later, "Sorry, we don't have any in stock!". Wth
