1966 C10 stepper--5.3/4l60e budget build

Well I'm going to start a build thread for my c10. I'm currently in the middle of my LS swap. It's a slow process as I don't have a ton of time to devote to it. I'll be posting pics as I get more done...

Scored some parts to convert to disk front. Also have all the stuff for bags. Have to cup my lower control arms for that.

Looks good so far. I've started my 5.3 into my 72 this week. I'm waiting for a little more progress to start my own thread lol.

Nice. Also working on a 5.3L swap. In the process of cleaning the block for paint.

Yeah mine isn't going to be pretty this time around. Wanna get it driving and on air. Eventually I would like to build it and coat the frame and make it not yellow any more haha

this may be a stupid question.. what motor mounts are those? they look simpler than my stock 68 ones with e-bay plates

That's the kit I used. I like it better than factory mounts.

Right on! Thanks for the encouraging words. It sure is a slow process for me but I'm excited to get this thing done!

Hey, I like your build. Nice truck. My son has a 65 chevy truck and I have a 68. How did you put the newer wheels on the truck?

Most likely wheel spacers like in the photo on post #6. The thick machined spacers in the photo that bolt to the stud and have studs in them that then bolt to the wheel work well and seem to be good quality and pretty safe. The thin ones that are also shown in that picture are a little questionable because they just get sandwiched between the wheels and the mounting flange and can through vibration, heat, and cold cycles possibly loosen the lug nuts.

I think the better question would be how thick of a wheel spacer did you use to make those awesome 20" wheels fit?

Correct. They are technically called wheel adapters since they have new studs on the spacers. They are the same lug pattern as factory. I honestly can't remember but I think it was 1.25. I only needed like 3/4 inch but couldn't get that small and have new lugs on the adapter.

Thanks on the wheels. They are off a 2014 Chevy half ton. I love the look. I think they modernize it a touch.

Does anyone know if I could adapt the power steering unit from the newer Chevy to work with my old system? Since I have the pump for the 5.3 already and have the unit from the 2000 already.

Take the pressure regulator nut off you old 6 cylinder pump, It will thread in place of the nut on the 2000 pump, Buy a V8 pressure hose for a '66.

I noticed in this pic your running a 298mm "Non-LS" 4L60E, Have you worked out the conversion to run this unit on a LS engine?

It didn't have power steering before if that's what your talking about the old 6 cyl pump.

What's the conversion?

That is a lot of yellow, haha. Looks like a nice truck, though, and you are doing some nice work so far.

What's the conversion?

Does your steering box take "Flare" or "O-ring" hoses?

You will need a crank spacer & redrill your flexplate for the converter bolts.

Honestly I don't remember for the 2000 Silverado system.

Yes I used a spacer and I didn't have to redrill holes. I was able to rotate about 15 degrees and the next set of holes lined up...

Haven't updated in awhile. Been super busy with a new job and living out of town. Finally got the truck moved with me and got back to work on it.

Got the harness finished up. Not as pretty as the premade ones but it was a heck of a lot cheaper! Have a radiator on the way as well as getting the pcm sent off for retuning.

Working on figuring out what to do for electric fans and trans cooler at the moment.

Getting close to a start at least. It's pretty dirty but it's progress!!
