Truck not starting/fuel problems

hello all,
I got an 87 sierra and this is the problem: it cranks fine and has good compression, however it wont turn over. I put some gas down the tbi and it runs but once the gas is used up it just sputters out and dies. also, my fuel gauge is stuck in the 3 o'clock position, just past full and wont move at all. I think it might be the ground wire that's acting up because I recently changed the tank. for the starting problem , I believe its the fuel pump? please help.

Re: Truck not starting/fuel problems

I'd first try and check for voltage going to the fuel pump to see if it's a wiring issue. The sending unit and fuel pump wiring are pretty close together and since your sending unit is dead and you're getting no fuel it could be a short.

Otherwise you'll have to drop the tank again. If you find that your fuel pump is dead, but your sending unit is ok, I'd still change the sender so you don't have to drop the tank again when it finally does crap out.
