Power Steering Box Nut Too Tight?
I removed the lock nut and round nut from my power steering box to replace a leaky seal and put it back together. When I started the truck the power steering pump was squealing and when I checked the fluid it was all bubbly. Do you think I over tightened that nut with the 2 holes in it?

Re: Power Steering Box Nut Too Tight?
Sounds more like air in the pump and lines. Start the truck turn the wheel all the way to lock on one side then shut off the truck. That is how I was told by MR. Goodwrench to bleed the pump. Jim

Re: Power Steering Box Nut Too Tight?
You have got to get the air out of the system. Start it up & turn the wheels all the way in both directions. Turn the engine off for around 10 to 15 minutes. The air will work it's way to the top. Fill the reservoir & run it again turning the wheels in both directions. You will notice the squealing gets less & less every time you do it. May take three or four times.

easier to cycle the steering box if you lift the tires off the ground
