Hickey folding rear seat brackets
Just bought a 72 blazer and it has a folding rear seat conversion just curious whether it is Hickey or not. If you have one and could take pictures that would be great. It has the swinging rear tire carrier so I guess it is possible they ordered the folding seat kit.

That's pretty cool...get Midunes on this to make some!

Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
Not sure if that is what I have trying to figure that out

Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
That sketch shows the upper seat back folding flat to the seat bottom, then the seat bottom pivoting up to open up the floor area. The packing/shipping weight says 2lbs. How in the world can you convert the stock seat to both fold in half and then pivot up with only 2lbs worth of "stuff" in the kit?

Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
Maybe that was a picture of the 73 up version. I haven't clean the blazer out yet maybe it does.
|
Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
The 73+ rear seat is essentially the same as the 69-72 but with different upolstery. Not much changed on the rear seats from 1969 through 1991. There has to be some type of hinge system for the back to fold flat, and some type of hinge for the front to allow it to tilt up. Alot going on for 2lbs worth of stuff in the box is all I'm saying. Maybe it was 2lbs worth of aluminum parts? :)

Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
It does have some kind of hinging system in the front and the back is not bolted tight now. There is some kind of mechanism on each side I never saw before and something else the arm rest posts are there but the cushions are gone.

Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
I checked out the link. It would Be awesome to have that on my blazer. I've never seen one in person. Or even on a web site that I rember. Pretty cool.

Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
You got that right. Many of us would love to Have that. I'm guessing you would need custom upholstery as well. If you cut the stock one I don't think
It would reach far enough to reattach it to the center part of the seat. |
Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
How will I ever know if it is the real deal without another set out there
|
Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
If it bolts into the stock locations it's gotta be the one. I've never heard of another setup like that before. There wasn't a lot of companies making all the aftermarket stuff back then.

Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
But how many actually made this type of mod for 69-72 blazer? Maybe jc Whitney but I'm thinking not a lot of them were made by other companies.

Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
Personally, I don't car who made it. If the kit can make that rear seat fold and tumble, its worth its weight in gold:)
|
Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
Very true
|
Re: Hickey folding rear seat brackets
I like the snap away seat kit way more then the tumble kit.
Who has that for me to buy? PG |
